Did you guys notice how Ricciardo re-entered the track correctly as per motorsport rules after the first turn dramas ... sure he lost a bunch of places but that is how it is done properly.

Ferrari is desperately missing Brawn and Todt.

Not the first time they've decided that saving tires is more important than gaining positions.

It was one of those highly intelligent team decisions of saving tires instead of getting out there.

Kimi questioned the team multiple times, wanting to go out there but no go.

The mind boggles. And all that.

To be honest, it was quite unexpectable that Bianchi´s last lap was 1 full second faster than his previous ones. And before the Kimi fans start the rant, Raikkonen also could have been faster; Alonso with the same strategy passed to Q2 without problem.

It's not all that strange to have had some small traffic (i didn't see his lap in Q1) to affect his time. 22 cars on a small track.

Fact of the matter is that when there was still time, he wanted to do another run but the idiots refused him. He questioned it multiple times but to no avail.

It's like Hockenheim last week, Kimi says he has to pit because his tire is gone, but they wouldn't listen to him for 4 laps.

Then we would complain about Kimi having only one set of fresh tyres for Q3. When you´re slow, you have to take risks and this time it didn´t work.

But that's the point. How many times have Ferrari risked stupid things in Q1 and one (or both!) cars didn't get to Q2? Too many times for such a team. IIRC it was in Malaysia 2009 when it first happened (from memory). Stupid call and Massa was out. It's happened way too many times now.

Even in Silverstone this year, just a few races ago they made silly calls affecting both drivers.

Ferrari strategy has sucked since Brawn left, and it urgently needs to be replaced and replaced by someone whose fridge hasn't fallen on his head when he was a baby. It's cost them at least 1 WDC already.

If there is one thing (besides the power unit) holding Ferrari back in F1, it is tire strategy. Massa's car was the in-race tire gopher for Alonso's next tire change. Massa never openly complained about Ferrari's decisions, but other teams sorted it out before the race- during free practice and qualifying. Now, Kimi is struggling with tire choices during qualifying and the race.

Using that same logic just think how many engines and transmissions they can save by sitting out races all together!

I wonder if Ferrari isn't setting up Kimi for the boot now. They are lighting the fuse and waiting for him to explode.

IMO, all this talk about strategy is just not seeing the wood for the trees. ALL teams have bad pit calls and bad pit stops. The difference is that some teams have good cars so they can afford it.

Did Mercedes screwed up the strategy with Hamilton at Germany? Maybe they should have stopped earlier. But nobody cares: the Mercedes is 1 s per lap faster so even if the strategy is wrong you finish on the podium, and that is what wins championships.

While true, Ferrari's call today was just imbecilic! The FP sessions had told them (all of them) that the option was around 1.5-2 seconds quicker than the prime. Ergo, a quick glance at the timing screen should have told them it was too tight and he had to do a lap on the options.

Not terribly impressed with this Mattiaci chap either; Ted K (Sky's pitlane dude) asked him what happened and got a curt "no comment" in response..... At least Stefano faced the music when they screwed up.

    Cheers,
    Ian

It was under control until Bianchi managed to shave almost 1 s off in his last attempt. Should they have avoided the risk? Probably, I´d have avoided it, Raikkonen sucks anyway so it wouldn´t matter a lot if he only has one fresh set for Q3. But was it "imbecilic"? Well, in hindsight everything looks easy.

No one can argue with their success when it comes to saving tires for Kimi. If that was their goal, the plan cam together perfectly. Kimi will have plenty of tires tomorrow.

Maybe the fans will vote for an inverted grid start. They do that at Saturday night local races, don't they?

Very true. Hindsight is indeed a wonderful thing.

But, even Kimi himself was asking to go out again as he wasn't confident..... Maybe they should have listened to him?

    Cheers,

Not the first time they've ignored him this season. In fact they ignore him on a regular basis.

The tyres are going to get burned up fighting through the pack anyway... stupid strategy.

I'd be livid if I was Kimi.

If the driver (any driver) wants to get back out of track, I think the team should stick tyres on the car and send him out.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

    +1

The drivers aren't mentally ill, they understand using another set of tires reduces the ones they have. Even then, the driver can then take the blame on himself for what happens after that.

The exact same call worked fine for Alonso, Kimi was just too slow. Again.

Even if Kimi was 20 seconds slower, any team would do their very best to have their car as high up the grid as possible.

    Best, Sammy
