This was Massa's year to prove to all his critics they were wrong.'

Unfortunately he is proving them right.

Bottas is driving with new parts this weekend, which partly explains the pace difference.

He's got a new diffuser among things. Certainly not worth 9 tenths, but explains a certain chunk.

They explained part of it during P2: Bottas and Massa got upgrades, but Massa's were trashed when his car went wheels up last weekend, so Massa doesn't have the upgrades this weekend.

According to the Ted report, Massa also got held up by traffic on his Q3 run.
I pretty much expected that when they sent him out early. That meant that everyone else was on a warm-up when Massa was trying to do his hot lap.

As expected by nearly all? If you're going to make such ridiculous and negative statements you don't have to generalize your opinion onto others to make yourself feel more correct. Your posts are the kind on forums that I consider very annoying (note that I didn't say 'nearly all consider annoying'). Just speak for yourself.

The results spoke for themselves today too - Which Williams driver FINISHED higher up today? Massa.
Who finished higher today, Kimi or Massa? Massa, by 1.6 seconds - or by your math - 2 lifetimes.

Yeah, by nearly all. Be proud to be an exception. I suppose.

Bottas still has more than twice the points. And a fraction of Massa's F1 experience. Nuff said.

Does anyone doubt that the Williams car is better than Ferrari this year?

Where did Massa end up vs Alonso today?

    Case closed.

I never made any statements about Alonso - I think he's one of the best drivers in the world.
It's surprising to me the amount of flaming here, most forums call this level of bashing and negativity 'trolling'.

This is the Massa doesn't suck thread - not the Massa sucks thread, so trolling seems to be the right word. Do the bashers on this thread go on other forums for things that don't suck and talk about how much they suck? It seems a few people here need to grow up or get behind the wheel of their own car and rev through a few gears to get some unnecessary aggression out rather than subjecting fans of a particular driver to criticism that seems to borderline pure hatred. Not what I come here to read.

Did you watch the race? Is so, please answer "which drivers got screwed by the timing of the safety car?" I'll help you out - Rosberg, Vettel, Bottas, and Alonso. That's the ONLY reason Massa finished ahead of Bottas.

Williams screwed up with their choice of the Medium tire, it didn't work for anybody out there (Hamilton included). Considered on his own, though, how did Massa do? Did he pass anybody on track for position? No, he lost two places at the start, benefited from the safety car timing, then trundled home. Massa's own goal was to challenge Alonso in this race - despite Alonso being greatly disadvantaged by the safety car timing, Alonso in the inferior Ferrari still blew Massa away. I'm not sure why you brought Kimi up, but Kimi started 16th and finished 6th, gained 10 places. Massa finished 1 place higher than where he started, despite 2 drivers ahead who got screwed by the safety car dropping behind him (Vettel and Bottas) - so Massa never passed anybody on track, but got passed by Hamilton.

He had a great opportunity, running in 2nd at one point ahead of Alonso... yet Alonso finished 2nd, Massa trundled around and finished 5th. Yeah, Massa's just brilliant. :D

This isn't trolling, this is sporting fans expressing their opinions. I don't expect everyone to share the same opinion, do you? This isn't a Massa fan club, and this thread isn't restricted to Massa fans - all are allowed to express their opinions, as long as we follow the rules of the forum. (And we do - if you're not familiar with them, now would be a good time for you to read them over)

Don't let the facts get in the way of a spirited discussion. :)

Massa before the accident was fast. Now he is a mere shadow of the driver he once was and is slowly marching down the grid. A paydriver by any other name.

As for the trolling: Leave that to the mods to decide.

Massa was the faster Williams today. Plain and simple. Not in qualy but in the race where it counted. Again he is faster than Kimi lol! Well done LdM.

The Williams was not a good car on the medium tire at all. Damage limitation due to track layout. In Spa they will be fast and again it might be Bottas ahead of Massa. Massa will no doubt beat Kimi lol!
Flame or troll away - The world still turns.

Uh, no - not even close. Here's the fastest laps during the race for the top 10 drivers (apologies for the poor formatting, see it properly formatted at 2014 Hungarian GP lap times & fastest laps - F1 Fanatic ). Massa's fastest lap was 1.4 seconds slower than Bottas' fastest lap :

Plain and simple, the ONLY reason that Massa finished in front of Bottas was the timing of the accident on lap 9, where the first 4 cars had already passed the pit entrance, and the remaining field dove into the pits for their tire change.

On track, Massa did not overtake a single car, but got passed by 2 cars at the start and later was passed by Rosberg. Bottas overtook Vettel at the start, and only lost ground during pit stops.

As for Massa vs. Kimi - Kimi started 16th, finished 6th, made up 10 places including several on track. Kimi's fastest lap was .3 seconds quicker than Massa's, even though the Williams was a faster car (Bottas fastest lap was faster than Alonso's). Massa finishing one place ahead of Kimi is actually pretty pathetic, given that he started 10 places ahead and was not as fast.

    So much wrong with this.

Bottas had to pit a lap later because they already passed the pit when the SC came out so massa took a big advantage over Bottas, who dropped down to 14th or there abouts.

This completely ruined Bottas strategy but still finished only 12 seconds behind Massa.

Your Kimi dig is also not accurate at all. Kimi was all over Massa but because of the massive speed of the Williams (it is the best on the straights because of lowest drag and big mercedes power). The end of the straight is the only realistic overtaking place and it's the one place where the Williams was able to go faster...Kimi pulled back the lead in S2 and S3 constantly.

I actually found Massa rather average today. His defending on Kimi basically consisted of his ability to use his right foot on the straight and lucked ahead of Bottas because of his own poor start and the fact that Bottas & co where passed the pit when the SC came out.

Doesn't matter.... Still best of the rest...

It's your position when you cross the line that counts... Doesn't matter how one gets there..

If everyone got a simultaneous flat tire 2 laps before the end of the race and Maldonado didn't, and won, he wouldn't be the best driver that race. He lucked into it.

The reason why people post bad things here in this "Massa doesn't suck" thread is because he doesn't suck.

    He really sucks.

Massa has a 5 year history of being out performed by all of his teammates. At some point, you have to wonder -- "WHY?"
