    Hi,

Bumped into peculiar article about Ferrari future plans in the most recent Car magazine issue. Raised all eyebrows I have and couple of questions.

But first, here is the schedule:
    2014/15 458 replacement
    2015 LaFerrari Spider and FXX
2016 FF facelift and F12 facelift
    2017 California replacement
    2018 F12 replacement
2019/20 458 TT and FF replacement

FF facelift and replacement looks absolutely logical and goes in line with 4+4 years model life cycle. And it I guess it is pretty done thing since it was confirmed by all dealerships I/other Ferrai owners talked to. The only question is whether TT V8 is going to be introduced as an alternative for NA V12, or they will keep it V12 only.

F12 left me puzzled though. I haven't heard about any facelifts coming from my dealer and 2016 doesn't make much sense to me if it is going to be replaced fully in 2018. And 2018 replacement means that its lifespan is going to be <6 years which roughly matches 599 which did without any facelifts.

Given that the Car is fairly reputable magazine, I doubt they would put unproven info into print. At the same time I am struggling to understand what's going on with F12 lifespan.

Anybody has any information to clarify the situation? Will be much appreciated since I am looking to replace my FF after 2015 with F12 and something more german and less expensive.

    Cheers,
    Roman

I do not really know much but the 458 seems out of sequence seems like that would be replaced prior to F12... as that puts it on a 10 year (assuming 2020) cycle seems long..

458 not replaced until 2019 is hard to believe. That would be a 10 years run. We are expecting something new next year.

There were couple of pages about 458 TT replacement that's why it was not present in the schedule. 2019/20 is a replacement of a replacement basically.

You thoughts on 458 are appreciated but what about F12?

The Turbo 458 ('468') is an M version, which will be unveiled either 2015 or 2016 (a bit varying info at this point, logic suggests Geneva next year but many have been told Geneva 2016). Like the 550 -> 575 / 360 -> F430 / California 30 -> California T.

If you would be bothered to look at the slides from the 5 year plan I provided you would see that models last for 4 years before an M model is introduced. So the M is due 2016-2017.

I think that "facelift" is a completely inaccurate term, implying that changes will be only cosmetic. The "M" version is what Ferrari chooses to call it. The question is how radical the "M" will be. For example, the F430 was an "M" version of the 360. There was quite a suite of mechanical changes, in addition to the styling "facelift."

The F12 is already the facelifted M or T model, whatever you like to call it. It is basically a facelift to the 599. So per ferrari we should expect it to have a four year cycle. It started with the 2013 model and should finish with the 2016 model. The 2017 model, to be announced in 2016, will be the all new and complete replacement of the 599.

Not true on the F12 at all. Its a totally new platform. At its introduction Ferrari went out of their way to point out they went as far as they could with the 599 platform and thus designed a totally new platform for the F12. When they use the T designation, its now for Turbo. That won't happen for the V12s.

I think its very likely we see the M version of the F12 in 2016. But does that mean they deliver this F12M in mid-late 2015 as a 2016 MY car or they preview this in 2016 as a 2017 MY car? I think Ferrari can choose depending how the marketing looks.

I've noticed Ferrari tends not to follow such hard and fast rules with this stuff. If almost any other car company said their 2016 car would be the new model, they mean that model year. But Ferrari can get away with being a little coy and using whatever terms make sense to them.

I am really convinced the 458 Modified will be turbocharged. They are already delivering 2015 458 Italias. The question is whether they show us the 458 T in the next 8 months for 2016 model year introduction in mid-late 2015 or if they continue the Italia for one more model year. I bet customer reaction to the turbo in the California T will be a factor here. (pure speculation by me).

I bet they introduce the FF-M in the next year. And I bet it still has the V12. Maybe a tiny bit of electric stuff going on to help with fuel/ CO2?

Uhm no? F12 is NOT an M.

For the record, there is no such thing as a T model. The turbo is why the California T has its name. The designation is M regardless.

That last slide is fascinating! It implies they think that Ferrari can have a value of $10 billion at 10,000 units a year, but also says they're keeping production level until 2018. Based on the multiples, though, $1 bn EBITDA is a huge jump from where they are now. A lot of wishful thinking there, IMHO. "Trees don't grow to the sky." Not even in China.

Not at all. The F12 is a new car. We might get an F12M or not. Or simply a pack a la HGTE and then something special a la GTO/Aperta.

F12 will probably get a pack (HGTE) and then something limited (GTO/Aperta) before being replaced by new car.

Yes. Calling the 430 a modificata version of the 360 is reallllly stretching it.

Yes it is, but Ferrari still considers the car an M for whatever reason.

I'm quite concerned now since my F12 is 2015 and 2016 is a facelift then when will the 'GTO' version be released?

Don't know exactly tbh. Should in theory be unveiled 4 years from the F12 was, but nothing confirmed as of yet. It is still a few years away from being in the hands of most customers, that's for sure.

Well if that's the case, I will be able to enjoy my F12 for 4 years before switching to a "GTO" or limited F12. But will the 458 "16M" be able to hold its price as good as the 430 "16M"? 458 is a better car no doubt but maybe a little too much technology.

Scud 16M is a limited number commeration car. 458 SS will not be, although it might be produced in fewer examples (499 v 458). This is not confirmed, merely speculating. I vote for the former holdning its value better. But it's hard to say much when we have not even seen the 458 SS yet!

I think that's because the basic structure is mostly the same. Whereas the 458 is a totally new platform.

Interesting article. Makes it look like Ferrari really wanna stick to facelifting their cars like they just did with the California. Im guessing the 458 and the F12 will get similar treatment and a completely new platform/replacement will come out 4 years later. Doesn't necessarily mean its a bad thing. Although the California doesn't look dramatically updated, a lot of the tech/engine/fuel consumption have been enhanced and improved while the older California owners won't feel like their cars are too dated...

I checked my order (Oct. 2013) and Ferrari refers to F12 as NUOVA 599. I don't read Italian, but I suspect that means NEW 599.

It does indeed but anyone who thinks the F12 is a facelift 599 has it wrong. The F12 is a totally new model and will be face lifted accordingly whether with HGTE pack or similar in a couple of years. Aside from anything else they will need to restyle the interior to incorporate the Apple Info system.

I agree that the F12 is certainly not a face-lifted 599. But I don't think that the 599 is a face lifted 575M either. In fact the 575M was a face-lifted 550. So it seems that the 599 is a stand alone example that was never face-lifted, an exception to the rule.
