Engine bay panels

I presume a number of folks here have removed the panels to access one thing or another. Is your question more so how to remove the panels, or, if any members have re-painted their panels?

I just went through the exact same thing with my panels. One on right rear was heat blistered. I remove it and had it repainted. It looks brand new now (almost too good). So I did the left rear one as well. Debating on doing the larger forward ones but don't think its necessary. After photos below:

Dude just open the hatch, get the 3mm (or whatever size), unscrew the hex fasteners... and have at it. Full disclosure: I have a modena.. I redid my side panels with a semi-gloss and it looks great! You'll be so happy when you do. Or powdercoat them..

 

+1 on the powder coat. I would take mine off, take them apart, buff them out with a buffer, clay and wax them, put back together and reinstall, only to have them look like crap in a month. After powder coating, they always look freshly waxed (and it's been years now) and I simply wipe them down with a damp towel.

 

I passed on a really nice 2003 360 because it had the same problem. I settled on a clean 2002. Looks real good!

 

Is it easy taking them off a coupe?

 

Get an electric screwdriver, a 3mm bit, and a flathead screwdriver and its off in 3 minutes.

raise/popoff the clip on the shock with the flathead screwdriver, unscrew all the hex screws with your electric screwdriver and bit, take the lid shock off the mount, lift off the panel, put the shock back on.. and lift out the panel.

3 minutes.

 

I use wd40 to clean and seems to work well. Gives a nice shiny appearance.
