Today was a sad day for my family. I took our little dog GAMINE to her eternal rest. Been of very good company for 13 years. At the end she was sick and could not even drink water for the last 3 days.
    Couldn't see her suffer anymore.

She will be in our memory forever.

    RIP

I hope you realize that you made the right choice. You may find some small relief in sharing some pictures of her with us, if you want of course.

Here she is. The one behind. My little Gamine

When I divorced from my ex-wife we kept one each. Gamine was mine and Mousseline was hers.

Mousseline the one in front died many years ago.

Sorry to hear about your loss but you clearly made the right choice. It may seem tough but suffering is not the way to go. I had a family member diagnosed with cancer lately and he refused lots of the recommendations. It may seem stupid but he refused to be a completely different man at the "chance" of living a little bit longer ( in the scheme of things).

Sorry for your loss. Maybe in the not-too-distant future you will find another pet that brings you a similar joy. I hope so.

Claude, sorry to hear about this. People should never underestimate the love we have for our animal friends, and vice versa.

I alwasy post this when I hear that someone lost their furry companion.

Bernie...That plaque got me most of the way to misty eyed. Great sentiment.

Claude...the pics are lovely. What breed of dog was Gamine?

    Epitaph to a Dog

    Near this Spot
are deposited the Remains of one
    who possessed Beauty without Vanity,
    Strength without Insolence,
    Courage without Ferocity,
and all the virtues of Man without his Vices.

This praise, which would be unmeaning Flattery
    if inscribed over human Ashes,
is but a just tribute to the Memory of
    Boatswain, a Dog
who was born in Newfoundland May 1803
and died at Newstead Nov. 18th, 1808

When some proud Son of Man returns to Earth,
Unknown to Glory, but upheld by Birth,
The sculptor’s art exhausts the pomp of woe,
And storied urns record who rests below.
When all is done, upon the Tomb is seen,
Not what he was, but what he should have been.
But the poor Dog, in life the firmest friend,
The first to welcome, foremost to defend,
Whose honest heart is still his Master’s own,
Who labours, fights, lives, breathes for him alone,
Unhonoured falls, unnoticed all his worth,
Denied in heaven the Soul he held on earth –
While man, vain insect! hopes to be forgiven,
And claims himself a sole exclusive heaven.

Oh man! thou feeble tenant of an hour,
Debased by slavery, or corrupt by power –
Who knows thee well, must quit thee with disgust,
    Degraded mass of animated dust!
Thy love is lust, thy friendship all a cheat,
Thy tongue hypocrisy, thy heart deceit!
By nature vile, ennobled but by name,
Each kindred brute might bid thee blush for shame.
Ye, who behold perchance this simple urn,
Pass on – it honours none you wish to mourn.
    To mark a friend’s remains these stones arise;
I never knew but one -- and here he lies.

I can totally relate to this. Been there done that, it really is heart breaking. Really sorry for your lost. I had my chow chow for 16 years until he got sick and I had to make a decision to put him to sleep by my vet while he's on my lap. It stil makes me cry inside thinking about it, it's like loosing a child. Good thing about this is, they're up there with the Man above.

My sincere condolences. One of life's great tragedies, in my opinion --- the short life expectancy of one of life's greatest and most rewarding treasures -- dogs.
