In looking at a book on Pininfarina, I saw a shot of Battista Pininfarina next to his long nose Lusso
identified in the caption as SN4335. It seems the history of its ownership changes is pretty short.

    THE SECOND CAR
Then on VeloceToday.com they show a red 1963 250 GT Speciale Berlinetta (S/N 4385).they say re-emerged in San Francisco in 1978 and was thought to be a modified Lusso.
and belonged to Lee Herrington. In the pictures it looks like a 250 GT Lusso from the windscreen back and a 250 GTO from the front. VT said "The one-of-a-kind car came about when a wealthy Italian friend of Enzo Ferrari wanted to buy a 250 GTO. At that time, Ferrari was inundated with such requests for his highly successful 250 GTO and insisted that it only be sold to 20 proven race car drivers. As a compromise, Enzo agreed to build a special car for his friend. He personally wrote on the build order for this car that it should have a steel body like a 330 LMB only shorter and a Lusso engine. When the car was completed in 1963, Ferrari’s friend was involved in a much publicized sex and money scandal and fled Italy before taking delivery of the car. To save the embarrassment of being connected to his disgraced friend, Ferrari sold the car to a buyer as far away as possible, in South Africa. It re-emerged in San Francisco in 1978 and was thought to be a modified Lusso. It wasn’t until the new owner asked Piero Ferrari about the car in the 1990’s that the true story of this unique Ferari was discovered."

By this list it has a big time gap between '63, when it was argumably still almost a new car and '72, so I was wondering if it was "barn found" in '72 or if it was still too new to be a "barn find" but then merely qualified for the appellation "used car." By the way, by today's standards, a sex scandal is hardly enough reason not to pick up a Ferrari you paid for...

    All nonsense.
4385 GT was built the way it is today. And sold new to a friend of Enzo Ferrari in Milan on 7th May 1963. It had no fewer than eight (8) owners until 1978. Most of these in Italy, I have the old Italian road registration documents for all this. No barn find involved, stop dreaming. And have a look in "Cavallino" #159 of June 2007, where it was even on the cover.
