Nice job. It's the thankless and hidden little (not so little!) jobs like that which prove devotion!

Today I finished up a thing I started a week ago.

    1. Turned on AC.
    2. Felt chill, nice.
    3. Smelled dead things. Not nice.

My car had been sitting a LONG time (11,200 mile car, only 3k miles in last 5 years). Traced LOTS of little shell pieces from inside the fuse box (mouse #1) then a trail to the brake booster area (mouse #2) then a trail down the console (yarn, carpet fibers, pine straw) then a trail to MY DEFROSTER VENT for little baby mouse #3.

    Yuckness.

I pulled the interior. Seats, carpets, console, switches, cleaned it all VERY good. Then pulled wheel well on front drivers' to pull and replace the soiled defrost vents. What a pain.

Got it all tidied up. And the hoses were rotted, smelly. I'm going to venture that most of the original ones are definitely NOT sealing well or holding air like they should.

Got rubberized, lined hoses from McMaster Carr. All done.

Ahh, fresh air! (Like genius, I only posted the 'before and during' shots. The AFTER shot will come. The interior is just fantastic and smells again like good leather.)

I replaced the smog pump on my 1978 gts. Turns out it is identical to pump on my 1974 jeep j10 360 v8. Use that reference at the auto parts store (1/4" 20 thread pulley bolts).

I just bought a set of Coker TRX tires and after about a 1000 miles, I caught a nail on the Garden State Parkway and ruined the tire. So I had a old Michelin TRX stored in bags in the garage. To my surprise & delight, it had no dry rot. The tire guys agreed and its on the 308. I know I'll take some heat because the tire has a 2001 serial # but it beats another $424

This is what I did today with my 308!

It appears that Ruby got out last night, beat-up a Prius, and took it's California Air Resource Board sticker. Apparently, she wants unfettered access to the Diamond Lane, but I'm not sure we'll be able to get away with this... What do you guys think?

Increasingly sticky throttle cable. Took apart pedal area and the pedal is smooth and free. As is the rotation on the little cam roller and the butterfly valve on the intake. The only sticky item is the cable passing through its casing. No visible fraying of the cable itself at either end. Tomorrow's adventure is to use shrink tube to connect a few of the Tri-Lube/WD-40 straws together long enough to get to the cable casing end under the intake plenum. Pretty tight under there, but I think my son and I can make a Rube Goldberg. Planning to use Tri-Flow is it has worked on my bike cables. Other opinions?

I drove it in a light rain with the top off in the morning. Had some Starbucks and drove it home in 102deg heat. A great day!

    Riggio,

Congratulations mate, I've kept an eye on your car the entire time it was on carsales. I ended up picking a GTBi last year, I loved yours and the work you had done on her. Someone has a sweet and classic ride!

Door handle cable broke the other day fixed that with bicycle derailer cable. Adjusted the rear toe and front toe. Small things make a big difference.

Helpful Hint: Genuine GTO owners do not appreciate being asked if theirs is a "real" GTO. At least, the one I met didn't. ;)

This is true. Kind of like asking a dancer in a strip club if her boobs are real. I would think it would be flattering, but results may vary.

Barry, how do the new TRXs drive? I have had TRXs on my car originally but they were ancient and rock hard so I couldn't get much of a driving impression before switching to 16" wheels/tires. I've considered getting a new set, but it's been tough to justify the the cost. The 16" wheels I've been running are OEM so from an originality standpoint I can use either set. Just wondering if investing in a new set of TRX would be worth while.

My horn stopped tooting. I could hear the pump working, but nothing at the trumpets. I removed the air lines and blew out some debris with my compressor. I also removed the trumpets, unscrewed the horn section and noticed that they were very oily. Blew out all the oil, put everything back together and they work louder and sound sharper than ever.

Off to see the wizard, the lowered ride height on the QA1s have to be adjusted, the current set up does not suit these lovely NY roads!
