That's the plan. I just wanted to see if the code would reappear after reset, or if it was only there because it was left there. I will drive it until all of the tests have completed. It may take a few weeks. Once they are all completed, I will report back the results.

The purpose of this thread is to provide diagnostics tips to others that may have a similar issue in the future.

I have almost completed mine ... a LOT of work! I took the male connector from a Motronic with 88 pins (cheap on ebay and I have one spare here if you want), and the female connector from a BMW engine loom (ebay again!), plus some extra female pins ...

BTW Tom, sorry to read that you still encounter some issues. Keep us informed please.

    Yes it does.

I have no idea how much time you have in it but it would be a marketable item if it was not too outrageous a price.

Not really marketable as is. Internal cabling is a real pain. A multilayer Printed Circuit Board (PCB) would do the job much more easily but I had no mean to develop such a PCB. On top of that it appears very difficult to find brand new connectors in limited quantity.

I understand. After similar jobs I also know the labor alone would be a deal breaker.

Actually, making custom multilayer PCBs is in my line of work. The issue is that the NRE cost is high. Once the NRE is covered, the boards would probably be in the $100-$200 range (or maybe cheaper if I were to have them made in Asia).

Eric, if the connectors have part numbers on them, could you post the numbers and I will see if they can be sourced in a low enough quantity to be reasonable?

I see a bigger opportunity to rent a breakout box. Simply charge $100 a week or whatever, with a refundable $800 deposit, to ensure you get it back.

Tom, I can't see any reference on the male connector (the one on the Motronic), and attached are the references I have for the harness connector.

I've been driving my car for a while now but it still hasn't finished the last test. I did get a new code though. P0116 Engine Coolant Temperature Circuit Range/Performance.
Also, I saw a post by f355spider back in 2007 regarding replacing the Throttle Position Sensor. I think when the MAF fails, which is the P0102 code that I'm getting, the ECU will monitor the Throttle Position Sensor to estimate the value that it should have received from the MAF. I'm considering replacing both the throttle position sensor and the engine coolant temperature sensor to see if it resolves my issues with the codes and a rough idle.

Worth a try. Check Ebay listings for Ron Tonkin Gran Turismo, they were listing a TPS for a 355 for a very good price. I replaced my TPS, coolant temp sensor and idle control valve....no change in getting the low idle upon cold start occaisionally. Dave Helms thinks it may simply be a hinky Amp Junior Timer connector to one of these many sensors that is causing the problem, and believes it would be worth checking the car on a break out box. Regardless, he thinks that renewing the pins on every Amp Junior Timer connector in the engine compartment may resolve the problem, and prevent many more. He is going to send me a kit when he has all the parts and peices assembled, along with some installation tools, so I can test out all the stuff for him, and give him some feedback. His kit will include gold plated connectors, and a better quality boot. My boots were previously replaced with upgraded ones at the major service last January. This is a worthwhile excercise for me, as it is only the cost of the parts, and I supply the labor. ;)

I have also been discussing the gold connectors with Dave Helms. I am going to be doing the major in April and would like to upgrade all of my connectors and boots at that time.

Finally resolved the P0102 issue. I changed the ignition wires and the issue went away.

If you remove the covers and look at the plug wires near the plugs at night (must be dark) and you see blue flashes, it may be time to change your wires.

Should I replace all the old Relays, if so where can I buy them?

I just used contact cleaner and a can of compressed air. As far as relays, It was a long time ago that I worked on this particular issue, so I don't remember. I'm not sure I even replaced the relays. Pull one out and search for the part number on the Web. If you can't find it, maybe Ricambi would have some.

Loser, that was an amazing tale. It sounds like you eventually found and resolved all of your problems??

I live near you in Morgan Hill and bought a 430 a few months ago. Mostly smooth operation so far but I did have a weird glitch a few weeks ago and got a few codes. First indication of trouble was that the AC system stopped blowing any air, then I got a check engine light, then read out two codes P0074 (ambient air temperature sensor circuit intermittent) and P1115 (manufacturer defined). Parked it for a week and forgot to plug in the trickle charger. Went to start it last weekend and it was stone dead. Took a few days to charge back up and I guess the dead battery restart cleared everything because AC is now working, codes are gone, check engine light is clear. Hmmm!

It's on the trickle charger now and I'm afraid to leave it off.

This situation reminded me that I need to find a great mechanic to deal with any issues WHEN they come up. I'm not nearly so talented with car repair as you are.

Also I'd like to debug a resonance at ~3K RPM that bugs me and disrupts the beautiful engine sound. Maybe something in the exhaust system?

Anyway, if you have recommendations for or against any local Ferrari mechanics, please send. Much appreciated.

    Hi Dan,

I have Brian Crall (Rifledriver on Fchat) work on my car when needed. He's up in San Ramon.

As far as the trickle charger, I drive my F355 at least once a week, but I still always keep it on the trickle charger.

We should get together for a drive sometime.
