1995 456GT, with the radiator replaced in 2005, coolant regularly replaced. The red coolant temp warning light will come on after the car idles for awhile, on a warm / hot day: didn't do this til recently. The temp gauge reads just a hair over 190 when the waring light comes on; that I believe is well within normal operation range, and presumably should not trigger the warning light. I notice no difference in the car's performance, and no indications of overheating. Also, once it comes on it stays on and does not seem to go off once I get the car on the road again, which presumably should cool it down a bit. I am guessing there is an issue with the sensor? Any thoughts or suggestions?
What would be the simplest method to do this? Were I to remove the cap on the expansion tank, I'd have an eruption.
if your car does not overheat and everything else seems to be normal, most probably the gauge sender p/n 148677 is your culprit this sender has two functions : a) transmitting temperature value b) generating the warning light at a preset limit in the following grafic it´s part no. 39 . Dang. I note that the coolant temp gauge needle comes to rest near the middle, slightly to the left of 190 when the car is turned off (its "off" position), but the other gauges in the cluster all swing to the far left for their "off" position. So, unless others report that their temp gauge is near 190 when "off," I will assume that there is a problem with the temp gauge. Where does the needle on your temp gauge come to rest when "off"?
