This weekend the TUDOR/Lemans sportscar race will be up at Road America. Since the merger between ALMS/Gran Am this is the first race at Road America. The track is packed again with some really nice cars including the new Corvette C7R and Viper GTS-R along with several Ferrari 458's and the Delta wing. The Mazda prototypes also look nice. Here are a few pictures from todays tech session.

Nice pics. I'll be headed up there on Sunday. I have not really followed the new series much, I always liked ALMS but never kept up with Rolex. Seems the big hitters from prior years like Audi and Peugot are MIA from this series. Does anyone here really follow it? GT looks like it is very competitive and still has all the well-known teams, but prototypes (LMP, not sure about the Rolex style prototypes) looked to be seriously lacking.

Am I right with this summary, or am I just holding on to the ghost of ALMS too much?

The GT classes I think are better with the addition of GTD. I counted 4 458's and 4 Audi R8's in both GTD and GTLM along with 3 Vipers, 2 Corvettes, alot of BMW's and Porsches and an Aston Martin. The entry list has 51 cars wich is larger than it used to be. The prototypes are mostly LMP2 type cars like in picture 5 with the "NEW" Grand Am style cars mixed in(wich are starting to look better on the outside). Alot of prototype cars but only the Delta and Skyactiv Mazda stand out.

The GS GT class race also has many cars including Aston, Nissan, Mustang, Porsche, Camaro, BMW ect.........

That's where I'm at after spending a few seasons working the ALMS Series, its just not the same. I'll probably head up Sunday if other things are taken care of first.

I'm not totally in love with the new series. Prototype needs some serious help. fortunately it seems the days of tube framed DP's is numbered with the regulations for 2017 seeking LMP-compliant closed cockpit, CF tub chassis. will be interesting to see what they do with those big ol' Chevy V8s... ;)

GTLM is great, as always. GTD is better in my opinion than GA GT or ALMS GTC ever was, and some great teams/drivers/lineups there.

but overall the magic of ALMS is gone.

The Vette Daytona prototype is really beautiful. Imagine a road version...
