what year of production? how many miles on car? could be different reasons

    -wrong PIS
-air in the F1 acuator (but usually gives you problems with some gears only)
    -F1 sensor failure
-complete actuator failure (throws you in N)

Try this. With the car off, have the key on with the dash lights on, press brake and pull both paddles at the same time, hold until you hear the beep with the F1 light come on.

2009 production, 2,500miles only... I hardly use the car. I was thinking maybe I didn't warm up the engine first? When I started the engine I just drove the car but of course really slowly. (Don't know if that may have caused it) The f1 gearbox light was on and with a beeping sound, the car won't shift at once when I pull the lever to 2nd gear... it would go to 2nd gear but with maybe 2sec. delay. So I pulled over and turned off the engine, when I started the car everything was fine and working well. No more gearbox light.

I bet you have air in the F1 system, it's the main issue with Scuds that are not driven. My car had the same problem, previous owner did not drive car in the last 2 years...my Fdealer told me these car must not sit. I put 3000 km in 3 months.

Plus I heard a pumping sound at the back... So what should I do? Just use the car from time to time then it won't happen again?

if you have air in the system, air bubbles expand with temperature rising and do not permit the oil in the F1 system to go on correct pressure in order to change gears.
The fact that you hear the F1 pump pumping at the back gives credit to my opinion cause most probably system checks low pressure cause of air bubbles and send inputs to F1 pump to source for more oil pressure.

Solution is simple (system purge) but you must absolutely drive your car more otherwise you will face this problem again and can cause F1 pump failure (5000 $)

this is what I have been told when my car had same problem, from 6th to 5th gear did not change gear.

Oh okay... I'll just drive the car a couple more times and see if this happens again. Thanks for the advise :)

no, let your dealer purge and refill the F1 system before, otherwise you will overcharge your F1 pump and this may cause failure.
system purge will cost you few hundreds, better than 5K for a new F1 pump.

Brought the scud to my dealer here and they said it had a F1 pump relay error... and they said eventually the pump might needed to be replaced. :-( they will forward the errors to Ferrari factory and wait for their advise. hope its just the relay...

I would think that a relay either works or doesn't work and I'm not sure how they got some sort of error reading from a simple relay.

if the pump leaks you can see oil on the bottom of your engine bay...
    Keeping finger crossed for you.

Best case scenario is you have a worn down, defective seal which needs replacing.

Worst case scenario is your F1 pump is shot.

Changing the relay is straightforward and the part itself is only like 80 bucks I think.

My buddy w a black 08 had the same issue last year, and yes coincidentally, the car had very very low miles given it's age, about 1,700 miles.
