Well you can always ask Ferrari to make you a bespoke V12 458, Clapton paid about 4M to get his done, so if you have the $$$, one way to do it. Regarding the California T argument, I don't buy it, people buy Ferrari for the full experience, sound included. Just because the Cali T might have a slightly different demographic, you can bet every owner bought that car not as an alternative to Aston or Merc, but because it was a Ferrari and sounded like a Ferrari. That being said, I'm sure Ferrari will make their customer's happy and create many grins on their customer's face AND all the third party exhaust manufactures will gladly take your money on the hope that they can sell you better sound...every body wins, MB
It would be a car that would replace the F12 and would go against the Aventador. I doubt that it would happen though.
I bet many turbocharged-Ferrari's owner will get aftermarket exhaust after 1 year, and even more after the warranty has expired.
You're going to be able to get these things up to 850+hp on the standard turbo's with a remap with a heap more torque than a n/a will ever be able to make. Can't see why people are complaining about something like noise. There have been plenty of n/a Ferrari's that don't sound that great! The 4xxT will have a completely different exhaust size, shape and length to the California.
On hand, 850hp sounds great... But will the transmission really be able to take it? On the other hand.. These cars seem fast enough and, more and more, it is the other aspects of the driving experience that seem more important. I'm fact sometimes it is nice to actually be able to go through the gears a little... Something that is getting harder and harder to do...
The LaFerrari is 900+ hp and Ferrari never disclosed the actual 0-60mph time, simply saying it was under 3 secs. The 458S is 3 secs from 0-60 and Italia under 3.4 secs so even with more hp there is only so much time that can be shaved when you get in the vicinity of 3 seconds. I would rather have a car that sounds great and is 3 or 4 tenths of a second slower accel.-wise Best
Yea and fight for traction the entire time, not to mention some of us like fast driving on twistys I don't see how 850hp does anything there. High hp turbo highway cruisers that race from 60-130mph for a few seconds are a US thing.
I also am willing to bet sales will disappoint, the new California T is definitely not flying off the shelves at least in EU.
At the moment, there is no long waiting for Cali T even it's just being launched. And almost every customer who got the car complain about the sound. Looks like Ferrari is no longer selling a dream, but a car.
There is no doubt that they understand this. They have said so. Unfortunately, politically correct but environmental useless emissions regulations are driving performance cars to smaller displacement turbo engines. It is not all bad; you get lots of torque and peak horsepower when there is no heat soak and driving conditions permit. But responsiveness, exhaust sound, and those stratospheric shrieking redlines that we love do suffer.
I have brilliant idea how to solve this problem, Ferrari need to leave this poisonous environment V8 engines and put into cars only V12
With any luck, Ferrari will start manufacturing turbo cars, Lamborghini will continue to produce NA cars, Ferrari sales will plummet, Lambo sales will skyrocket, the knuckleheads at Ferrari will finally realize what's going on, then start producing NA cars once more.
Is this going to be a refreshed car or it will a brand new italia's successor? If its just a refresh, than how many years till the new one comes out?
And dont worry about the sound. If u dont like it,u can always install the vroombox. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZuB0-9XBtww]FUNNY CAR COMMERCIAL - VROOMBOX - YouTube[/ame]
I think lambo will go turbo too. The duty on manufacturers will be so high on n/a there is no way they will be able to afford to sell the cars.
Lambo president has said they will stay NA for the forseeable future and will concentrate on lowering weight rather than turbocharging.
Foreseeable future is surly to the extent of its current model, which has only just launched and lifespan of the aventador probably a long while. I don't see how they can get round the duty yet no one else can... They can't offset against the rest of vag
High performance turbocharged SUVs are still producing more emission than NA V8 super cars. Some more there are way more performance tanks on the road than our lovely red car. Why don't they stop manufacturers from making some 2.5 tons that can go 0-100 kmh in less than 5 seconds instead of crying about super cars that are very rare seen on the road.
