I remember reading in the auction guide that this car has had the same owner for more than 40 years. That is probably worth a few extra million $$ !

Hmm, that's a surprise. I was hearing rumors that this car would go closer to $60 million. Last year, a 250 GTO with a lesser-pedigree went for, I believe $52 million. Interesting.

Wasn't this car in a serious accident? To the point where it was completely rebuilt?

That probably affected the price to some degree.

Also, the car is in a non-original color. But that probably doesn't matter to bidders for this car.

This car was part of a famous collection.... Violati. It did have a fatality in period. Before being placed in his museum (Marenello Rosso), it was driven regularly by Violati. I remember seeing an article about him and the GTO about how he drove the car to work, etc. I think one of the pictures had his dog in the passenger seat.
