Based on that description, I'm thinking it's a 968. That car is the body of a 944, with the headlights of a 928. If I'm right your dad will be disappointed when he opens the hood and realizes it's just a 4 cylinder, but they aren't awful cars. Definitely don't have the financial upside of a 308 though.

Financially it probably makes the most sense to part it out, given how insanely expensive factory parts are, but I think you should follow your emotion and try to get it running just to say you owned one!

Get it home, give it a wash and vac, and see what you have before you do anything. If you feel its more then you want to take on, sell it for 10k and move on. Either way you cannot lose with this car.

At 2k its worth spending 30k on it anyway, you will always make money with this one. Good find.

My friends father had an 81 GTSi sitting in his garage. After weight gain, health problems, whatever it just sat in there and moved once a year in and out of the garage for a party.

I told him repeatedly when you're ready to sell it, let me know i'll buy. Fast forward 12 months and he sold it to a friend of his for 5k because "i got tired of looking at that piece of S***". It started every time. I told him i would've given him 10 but money wasn't a care for this guy so 5k didn't make a difference.

Part it out? Don't be ridiculous. For people that don't mind getting their hands dirty and know their way around a wrench, its just another car to carefully bring back from storage.
Once you have verified that the engine isn't seized, changed belts, hoses and fluids-start the damn thing and see what you have. If it was stored inside, you may not have as much misery as others have predicted.
I recently brought an old, high end British sportscar back to life after a 25 year period of dormancy. It now runs and drives.

In and out of the driveway down the street doesn't count as it runs and drives :p

5 years back a friend of mine wanted me to buy his project 78 308GTS that had been sitting partially disassembled for decades. It needed a lot of work.

He wanted one of those early 90's Quattro Coupes. He said get me a decent one and you can have the F-Car. I found a decent Audi for about what the op is claiming he paid for his 308 and presto I had a 308.

    It can be done.

I don't understand what the hubub is all about. I park my snowblower every year, run it tills it's out of gas and throw a tarp over it. It sits for 8 months a year and I run it up and down the driveway now and again in the winter.

    What the difference?

None, assuming you change the timing belt on your snowblower and it's a V8 that costs north of $15K to rebuild.

Did you use your snowblower as a shoe rack for those 8 months ?

If the OP is a handy guy, and the car is rust free, and the engine isn't seized (or worse), he's going the have a lot of fun working on it. He's 20-30k or more ahead of the average purchase price so he has room to spend on decent parts and get the car sorted. If engine and gearbox are toast he can always cut his losses and part it out as Big Red has said. There was a thread not too long ago about an absolute POS on ebay that ended up selling for 13 k. That car looked like it had been through hell, with a drivers side door that was rusted out and a trashed interior. It's hard to imagine that this car is in worse shape so he'd likely be able to do better.

Guess this $2K 308 will bring down the average sale price of the now "skyrocketing" 308 market ;)

If the car is complete and half descent, there's no need to part it out. I can't believe that some of you give up so easily. Don't you have any faith or confident? If it was another brand then yes maybe but, this is not an ordinary car that you see everyday as a daily car, Specially if you paid a fraction of what's suppose to be. Why not spend the money and revive it?

Are we ever going to see any pics posted of this car ???

+2, even if it is filled with parts from NAPA, it is worthy of saving at this price point, and can keep him from going underwater. Worst case, it ends up filled with non-oem parts until the 308s hit Dino prices at which time it can be sold for big money and the next guy can correct the uncorrect.

Lets see the thread is 2 days old and the OP in the first post clearly stated that he has not yet seen the car, is 90 miles away, and will not see it or be able to take pictures until late this week early next. I'll reserve posting a sarcastic comment and say that the OP could still be legit and has not yet diverged from his story. Time will tell but he did offer a timeline for photos and it is greater than 2 days regardless of the hype in this particular thread.

Fiero… Ferrari.. I know that they both start with the letter "F" but they really are different. Yes, they both can be painted red.. ;-)

Hope it's true, too many years on me to believe it. Now where did my Jackalope get off to..

Ahaha thanks. But there is no avoiding the skepticism because I jumped the gun with posting this thread. Feel free to drop sarcastic comments. But I do hope they stop when I post up pictures of the car and more info, because I would like the help.

I trust Seller and my dad enough to believe its not a Fiero. But man would that suck.
