I found a 98 355 spider manual and i got it inspected. Here are the results:

    Compression test:
    195
    195
    195
    200
    195
    195
    195
    180

Performed a leak down test on the lowest cylinder in compression test. Gauge read approximately 0%.

    Other items to note:
Small oil leak - possibly oil tank lines. Oil level was low in oil tank
Engine bay cover on the right side is missing
Engine cover struts are worn and don't hold engine cover up
Interior lamp does not work, all other lights function
Some rock chips front and rear of paint
    Need new tires all around

Curious to know what people think of the results. I found it odd that one cylinder had a compression reading of 180 but 0 leak down. Is this normal? How much do you think it would cost to get everything on this list fixed?

By the way, the PPI was done at a independent shop that has some experience with Fcars. The closest dealer was 3+ hours away.

    Thanks for your help!

Since the leak down came out fine......my guess is.......when the comp test was being done it could be that cylinders 1-7 had six rotations for the readings, and maybe he lost count and the last cylinder only got five rotations???? Just a guess. Only real way to know is run the tests again at another shop. This way you have two different comp/leak down tests to look at.

Ernie, does the 0% leak seem strange? I did not think that was possible - I did not think a valve or rings for that matter can seal that well. I always though they had some (minimal) leak.

I spoke to the mechanic and questioned him about the low compression and he said he might not of had a tight seal on the test. He did confirm he did the leak down correctly and got almost 0 leakdown result. What makes me uneasy about this situation is that this is the only shop in town that does work on Fcars and the owner has used them in the past. The shop knows the car. I wanted to have the car inspected by an independent shop but the nearest one is about 3 hours away.

The cars has about 11k miles and the current owner put in 2k miles in 2 years. Last major done about 2 years ago. Walk away? Proceed to next step?

I don't think you should walk but I struggle with the tech not redoing the compression on the one cylinder when it seemed off. It would have taken him 2 minutes to test that cylinder again.

I wouldn't be using his shop going forward. The shop is located in Des Moines and I live in Atlanta. Wish i was closer to him, it would of made this process a lot smoother.

And if you do buy the car take it to Ron Reineke. Best independent in the Atlanta area.
