i am sure it won't be involving in the same way as the italia or the speciale but i am also sure that it will be very good compared to other turbos. what i hear is that it will look rather like the italia with a changed front fascia with bigger air intakes, side air intakes and a double exhaust with a redesigned rear diffusor. pity though, i like the signature triple exhaust...
i am contemplating at the moment whether to part exchange my italia for the last NA 8-cylinder car - the speciale - or embrace the new world......and get the 458M(T).
the latter will have the new info-entertainment system and LED lights....a sideline..

If you guys don't think a turbo Ferrari will sound good, listen to the sound of my UGR TT Scuderia . It's by far, the best sounding car I own even over my 1800 hp LP560. Turbo cars are the way of the future. I have some N/A cars and they sound great but nothing sounds like my Scud. I'm thinking about sending my 458 to UGR also, just to get this sound:)

Disagree that the TT Ferrari sounds better than the NA. Also, your cars probably aren't legal and definitely not designed as TT cars in the first place. A car engine designed around a turbo will almost certainly sound different than putting turbos on a car that was originally NA.

Given that no manufacturer has ever released a turbo car that sounds as good as NA, including Ferrari's most recent attempt, I highly doubt the next turbo car will be anything amazing sound-wise.

+458. Can't heard it as it idles and high revs don't sound anywhere near as good as the stock NA scud IMHO. Looks fast as heck though.............

    Meh...sound NA all the way.
    Speed...turbo all the way.
    Can't win 'em all.

Best sounding Ferrari I've ever owned:

Capristo blankets, race cats, 4-to-1 headers coupled with an s-line x-pipe exhaust. It is loud, but the sound is clean, crisp and high-pitched like the glory days of F1.

When the headers & cats get hot enough, I spit fire on hard accelerations and downshifts...the downshift pops sound like cannon fire, no exaggeration. BOOM, BOOM.

If you can't tell, I absolutely love the sound system on my car...

Sounds like you have the recipe perfect. I need that solution for the speciale. Yours sounds incredible.

Some people need to understand the difference between good sound and loud sound.
Lawnmowers have loud sound, but not good sound. With turbo charged engine, it can be loud, but it just won't scream like F1 (not 2014's F1). Because at certain rpm, the turbo will kick in, and here comes the sound of vacuum cleaner and kitchen exhaust being operated together near your ears.
Some more, a highly tuned NA engine being added turbo will still sound better than a turbocharged engine built from scratch. But still that vacuum sucking will ruin the whole thing.
Another problem is the sudden-push-sensation. You just can't feel the throttle that much anymore.

I don't care if my cars are legal or not, I build them for myself. I agree that most factory turbo cars don't sound as good as N/A cars, my MP4 is a typical example, it does not sound that great either, it definitely needs help. I have another Scud with a X-pipe (no mufflers) that does sound amazing but it lacks the speed that goes with the sound. I actually hate the exhaust on my 458, it has the worst sound transition, it goes from quiet to loud like a light switch, annoying. As far as my Turbo Scud, I think if you heard it in person, you would change your mind. At idle it growls, you hear the turbos whining and under any type of acceleration, it's amazing, shoots flames between shifts, simply the best all around car I have ever owned. Btw, have you ever heard a F40 with Tubi, that's one factory turbo car that does sound amazing..

You obviously like the sound of turbo motors, but a lot of people beg to differ. I for one don't fancy the sound of the F40. If you want sound, you need a high revving N/A V12!

My Dad and I both had Daytona's with long tube headers and basically straight exhaust back in the day, loved the way those sounded! I agree, nothing like those. I just like to have cars perform as good as they sound, I guess I'm a speed freak and not a purist. I don't want to have my daily driver faster than my Exotics, that's why I go with turbos ..:)

What I liked about this is the fact that there is no evidence of a trail off in torque as you approach the 8500 redline (per the sequence showing the tach during acceleration). Many turbo installations give huge mid range torque but drop off at high RPM.

Everything is possible, also a high rev turbo engine with a redline higher than 11'000 rpm.

Even F1 engines max out at 12000 RPM. I dond expect a 9000 RPM turbo engine for the next 458. Max power at around 7500 I reckon.

Exactly, the reason is, the motor has stock compression. This is a stage 1 w/ bolt on turbos so no low end power is lost. It just pulls and pulls. My Lambo has a built motor with lower compression so it has a bit of lag then it comes on like crazy but it runs 38 psi on C16. With the V-10, it helps a lot as far as lag. I have run C16 race gas in the Scud and turned it up to 9psi (900rwh), it's just too much for a 2wd car. Even with boost by gear, it spins the tires in 4th and 5th.

Actually, the 2014 V8s redlined out at 18,000 rpm and this year's new V6 TT's redline at 15,000-15,500 rpm.

The TT's obviously churn out more horsepower but tragically the lap times this year are dramatically slower than 2014 and only marginally faster than the junior series GP3 times.

If only everything ran in a straight line right? All that hp/tq would actually be usable ;)

Yes, one hopes that the 458 replacement keeps the high compression and hp peak at high RPM. When you drive the 12C, you get the sense that torque is falling off toward the 8500 redline, so you might as well shortshift. Of course there is still plenty of torque, but I don't like the feeling that the car is pooping out.

I agree wholeheartedly. I will wait and see what the 458M(T) is like, then decide whether to keep my Italia which I love or break down and join the new world order. There is no doubt that the new model will have plenty of torque, but there is much more to the driving experience than raw torque.

Interesting read here. Ferrari 458 Italia facelift to get turbo 3.8 V8 | Secret New Cars | Car Magazine Online

How will Ferrari keep the V8's soul in the 2015-spec 458M?

The flat-plane crank V8 will receive serious attention to make sure some Ferrari magic is retained. Complex exhuast systems and engine management microchips will be deployed to keep the sound levels up and to downplay the turbocharged kick-in-the-back associated with forced-induction cars.

From the picture, I imagine that the car will still look like 458, but will have a different front intake, side air intake, and air scoop on the roof????
