Even a mondial for 2,000 can be a nice bargain.

Finaly! So, you are getting a real GT. That's nice, and ow, still a bargain. You'll soo. Discover the upside of having a Mondi in stead of the cramped 308. The cost to put her back on the road will be the same as a 308, but the final 'net worth' tag will be (a lot) less. Nevertheless, Mpondis are extremely fun.
We gladly invite you to the mondial section where advice is free, and jokes are on the house. ;)

Please share some pics whenever you got 'em.

Mondials are great Ferrari's. The QV is a solid engine and you can do the major engine in. Great find! You're gonna love it. There's a ton of guys here to help you get her sorted. Check out the Mondi section and good luck!

He is also a person that doesn't understand priorities or how to operate a business. Income pays bills, buys parts, and keeps me fed. That would seem to come first wouldn't it. Also I am in no rush to finish up this project. I really don't need the instant gratification. Also he doesn't understand that businesses haves ebbs and flows and aren't constant. But even if it is constant, I would be much happier having so much business that I can't find time to fix this Mondial. If I was that busy, it would mean I am doing something right and can just afford to buy a newer Ferrari and enjoy my free time driving instead of wrenching.

I don't know about in England, but in America money doesn't just fall off trees. Also how would disproving people on the internet benefit me? You know in the substantive way, not the internet karma way...

I still stand by my 1st post....part it out.

If that car was put away broken, and wet , it will cost you MUCH more to get it to run right than what it's worth.

Given that you haven't had a Ferrari, or know much about it, you will not know how one runs correctly if you don't actually have one that is perfect beside it to compare.

Take it to a shop that knows these cars, and have them let you know if it's worth fixing. If that motor is pooched ... You need 20k to rebuild that motor , and you haven't even addressed suspension, brakes, new tires , or any electrical.

People that do this to these cars did so because it was busted, and couldn't afford to fix it at the time, and as time went on, could still not afford to fix.

Make no mistake, this car is "abandoned" in a garage ...it was not stored. Don't let your excitement make bad money judgements. Ferrari's are non forgiving in that regard.

Good luck ! And great find for 2k ...tread carefully before you dive right in.

You'd think the owners would at least know what car they had...

"You wanna buy my Ferrari 308 for $2000?... Oh wait a min. I think its a Mondial. Im not sure."

They knew, don't kid yourself. They know every reason why it's abandoned in that corner.

Thanks. I will make sure to look into it real well. Not going to rush anything at this point. At the end of this I will at least come out of it with a story.

Also I never talked directly to the Seller's husband, who's car this is. All of the information came to me second hand. Which explains why the information came to me in piecemeal fashion and incorrectly. Once I got there everything was explained. As you can see the Seller didn't force me to stay the night and wait to see it in the morning. The Seller isn't trying to hide anything it was just was a game of telephone. I think the identification of it being a 308 came from my dad and his insistence that it was the car from Magnum Pi.

I actually still have the opportunity to back out of this deal. They are giving me a few days to research into the car and see if I can even find the smog parts before making my decision.

Judging from they way they organize their storage, they probably never set a prioritized schedule to have the car cared for. Probably didnt know what they were doing. But car looks to be in good condition

The owner said he sat it because of smog issues, and he had changing priorities. In fact this is the last of his sports cars and he drives a people carrier now. They do seem to take care of their cars mechanically. They have a few old Benzs running great still. Because I know them personally I have a really hard time that this family sat the car because they didn't have enough money to fix something. I have seen their cars and experienced their generosity.

Looking at the speedo in Kilometers... Is this a Euro car ? "Autocentro Italy" tucked in with the Mondial badge.
The serial # will prove it

    Famous last words ;)

I wouldn't back out of the deal.

The smog story seems suspect to me as you mention they have money.... Smog is not cheap, but not overly expensive, which makes me caution what you have there.

Don't be fooled by the nice interior , as mentioned, these cars can be a money pit that bring you right in UPSIDE down. I will reappear, once you have it viewed by a professional you trust , proceed with caution. It could be a good buy to fix and keep, or it good be a good buy to part out and make money.

You have options..... Don't listen to the jokers that tell you to just fix it ...if it has electrical problems you will forever chase it ...and worse still, if this engine sat for a long period without use, you have other issues in that game.

Hopefully it's just smog , but I just don't see it or else they would have fixed it themselves based on what you mentioned already.

Either way, its a win\win situation.
These sell at about 12 to 20k euros over here.
2.000$ for a parts car seems quite a deal.
