Thanks for posting, Idart. I was in a Porsche dealer yesterday, and left amazed that not a single car there interested me. They were all automatic, and as Mezger says in the article, all you have to do is steer. Makes me appreciate my 930 all the more. Heading out for another drive right now.

What's a run of the mill, decent shape 930 going to cost these days? Little over a year ago I passed on a mint 930 for low 30s

depends on the year and miles. a 86-88 may be the best value. i think 60-70 would get you a very nice one. you are in lake norman and there are some 930 guys in the area. one guy has quite a few in his collection.

I'm not actively seeking at the moment. Not 100% sure what I want next, giving myself a few months to consider but want to keep it under 6 figures...

The inside door panels of my ’75 930 have a ‘Turbo’ and production number present. When I received the Porsche Birth Certificate from the Netherlands, I was surprised that they included my 930's production number on the certificate as I thought this number was held only at the Porsche factory. The certificate's production number matches the number on my door panels, number under the radio (passenger knee pad removed), and elsewhere on my car; testimony to the superb record keeping at Pon's Automobielhandel.

Several other black leather interior parts have production number labels. The inside of the driver’s door panel top has a label with only the last two digits '88' of the production number still visible in red ink. This tag also has a small strip of the plastic that originally covered and protected the surface of the leather door tops during delivery. The inside of the passenger knee pad also has a production number label but it’s interesting that it is mismatched to my car (but very close in number). I don’t question that the knee pad is original to my car and perhaps it was swapped during finally assembly at the factory.

I enjoy discovering these hidden details and to me, reinforces the importance of keeping a car as original as possible and resisting the urge to over-restore. Has anyone else found these hidden production labels on interior parts of their 3-liter 930’s?

Rich, fantastic details. I've never seen these decals before, and interesting they were all in English. Could these have been added when the car was imported to the US by a Porsche dealer? Anyone else have these?

Ryan – it is odd that the labels are in English but I don't think these were applied in the U.S. (Vasek Polak or another Porsche + Audi dealership at a later date). Did the U.S. dealerships even have the hidden factory production numbers and would they use the same German writing style for the "1"? If the labels were applied outside the Porsche factory, then perhaps Pon’s added them to the leather interior components but that’s a lot of work and for what purpose? Perhaps another explanation is that the ‘new’ ’75 Turbo had an all leather interior and the craftsman assembling the interior pieces tagged the components to the cars since they were specifically destined to only the Turbos and not the 911 Carrera’s or S models.

I’ll sure I’ll find more tags as I haven't removed the driver’s knee pad or any rear interior pieces. I’ve added an additional image that shows another view of the small strip of plastic covering that still extends outside my driver’s door top. I’ve only seen the one photo (Japanese Neko Porsche book) that shows the full protective plastic covering still attached to the door tops of a ’78 930 Turbo during delivery to Japan.

    Joe,
It seems strange to see the (Ruf style?) roof antenna and 6 cassette holders with a block-off plate in place of the radio. Did Ruf mount the radio somewhere else in the cabin?

Yes, Rich, Amazing how you keep coming up with these tidbits. Noticed the front marker lights were the US wrap-around style and the tail rubber from the top and sides was defined but not blacked in. The total definition of the tail was only outlined in the "rear" section and as such eerily reminds me of the 993 turbo tail!

The "REAR ELEVATION" shows small bumperettes, but it's an end of July 74 drawing and even the US cars had the small bumperettes in '74. Not in '75, though.

    So, US spec car?

    Great stuff, Rich.

With H4 headlights and the front bumper having a single side marker "f", it's a Row drawing... Wonderful drawing Rich, thanks for sharing...

I could be wrong, but I think this car sold a long time ago. I was after it over two years ago but it was no longer available then! I fear this is last years price!

The FIA homologated the Porsche Turbo in Nr. 645 on 6 Dec ’75. This document is interesting as it reflects how Porsche was able to count all production turbos to certify 400 identical production cars in order to be racing the 934 and 935 for the 1976 season. In Nr. 645, Porsche submitted both gearboxes and ratios (930/30 – standard 60/70 series tires, and 930/32 – 50/55 series Pirelli P7’s) and turbo coachwork with and without air conditioning. By doing this, Porsche was able to count production turbo coachwork that was not identical between A/C and non-A/C bodies ('76 FIA Appendix J already allowed sunroofs in coachwork). A photo of a rear wing with air conditioning is included in Nr. 645 supplement (marked C.S.I. correction). Another reason for submitting the tail with air conditioning was that it allowed Porsche to use the A/C version with larger secondary grill on the 934 to duct air to the transmission oil cooler and the turbocharger. A photo of a 934 from the April 1976 Christophorus shows the transmission oil cooler line to the secondary grill. Also, note the indent in the left underside of the 934 tail that was present on all ’76 & ’77 3-liter 930 tails and small rubber bumper supports for the tail (indent and rubber supports were not present on the ’75 930’s).

Porsche Cars Great Britain flyer for the 1976 model year featuring 1975 Turbo 2 GOO on the cover.

    ----------

    Turbo

The flagship of the Porsche range – produced to be the ultimate blend of performance, engineering sophistication, comfort and pure driving pleasure for everyday use – only came into customers hands in April of this year and, as a consequence, the number of amendments for 1976 are minimal:

    1) Fitment of the electrically heated outside rear view mirror with remote control adjust from driving position.

    2) Modified interior trim.

    3) Illuminated ignition/door lock keys.

The Turbo is a personalized car with many customer options available and, as such, is only imported into the United Kingdom to the customer’s own specification.

    ----------

The flyer includes information on the October 1975 London Motor Show, Earls Court, Stand 98. The Turbo on display was Platinum Metallic with dark green leather interior with green seat inlay and green carpeting.

The 1 Sep ’75 price sheet (Turbo - £15,496.65) indicates that British market 1976 Turbos were equipped with recoil bumpers (M 058) and electric sunroof (M 650 – accessory available without extra charge); Recaro sport seats left and right (M 409) were the only listed option for the Turbo.
