After reviewing several threads, I'm still left with an unanswered question: Which blues were possibilities in 1977 on the 308? I finally had my driver's door apart to fix a outside latch cable, and was pleasantly surprised to find that my car was originally blue! It's currently red, and though not done to a very high standard, was painted over well enough to hide any overt evidence of non-redness. After looking really well in several other nooks, I noticed the blue again, about a 1-2mm strip, along the top panel edge inside and above the fuel filler well above the cap. That's it for now. The blue looks very much like Blue Dino Met, which happens to be my favorite "color", with Nero Met being another favorite (though I think not an option in 77). Were any other blues actually shot on cars from the factory that year +/- one year? I've seen some re sprayed in Blue Sera and Blue Chiaro, but by owners, I believe. Thank you for helping, Hannibal
I'm not sure what that screen shot is from....my 22641 is definitely Light blue Metallic, and it IS an old color, used on the 246. I say there were a least "four blues" in 1977 on 308s, Blue scurro and two others, also. Azzuro Dino is the non metallic light bright "Smurf blue" IIRC Peel your NON CAT door jamb sticker, or unrivet the number VIN plate and see what you find...
Thanks. Looks like options were: Blu Scurro Dino Azzurro Dino Blu Dino Met Blu Sera Met That helps me narrow it down to one of the latter two mets. Thanks for the info plate removal idea, Tex! Ciao!
Hi my 1978 gt 4 has original paint blu dino met. n. 106 A 72,original was Salchi ,now Glasurit painted ,but it seems just the same color.
according to the Ferrari site, my '77 GTB was originally blu montecarlo. (it was listed as blue when offered for resale in 1992, so it sounds reasonable)
This site is so amazingly cool... So early 308s could have been: Blu Scurro Dino Azzurro Dino Blu Montecarlo Blu Dino Met Blu Sera Met How cool... Thanks for the blues and keep 'em coming if you know of others. Ciao!
Hi Guys, Could someone confirm for me if the 308GTB/GTS colour of Azzurro Metalizzatto 633 8 005, is in fact the exact same colour as the Dino 246 Azzurro Metalizzatto 106 A 32 ? Both paints were listed in the build sheet, as being manufactured by Salchi. I ask , as i have just put a deposit down on a Rosso Corsa GTB (steel carb car), that was originally painted in this colour and i have recently restored my Dino GTS to its original 106 A 32 ...... Just thinking i could save myself a lot of work , if i can use the same colour it took my paint shop over 3 months to match, on this GTB! Best regards, Jez
Jez: I will try to find this by tomorrow, but I have seen a color sample wheel from Ferrari that may answer the question. I just can't find it from my phone. That would be too cool to have a 246 and 308 in the same colors.
Thanks Will, that would be most appreciated! Whats even more amazing is they have the exact same interior from new also , VM3282 dark blue leather with dark blue carpets ..... a real matching pair! BR, Jez
flip the headlights up. lightly scratch the headlamp housing bracket which bolts to frame. at factory, overspray on everything from body colour, and than taped and sprayed black afterwards. the original colour will be underneath. unless a full teardown was completed with everything being removed, but based on what you have advised that prior colour still visible in select areas, doubt a full teardown was completed. otherway is to pry the dash upper centre vents off, and see underneath. the top part of the dash support is body colour.
I have the whole inside of my doors as a reference, but those segments do not appear to have any clearcoat on them, or at least are very rough to the touch, so it is really hard to tell exactly what the color is like, or would be like, when finished correctly. Ciao!
This is the site where I saw the color wheels. Paint Colors Admittedly, they are for earlier cars, but the codes are still listed. Sadly, the colors look different, for the same code, depending on which wheel you look at, and to add muck to the soup, 106-A-32 was once listed as Blu Hyperion...how helpful, right? I am no expert at all, and hope I have not hurt your search. I'm still very interested in catologing our 308 "Blues" in one place, though, and would love to add pictures of our cars in the various shades of blue to this thread. I'm still thrilled that you have two cars with identical paint and trim options. Very, very cool! Ciao!
Thanks Will, Hopefully, i will find a sample of original paint somewhere on the car when it is stripped down, as Vince suggested. I got lucky on the Dino this way , so fingers crossed its the same colour! I understand that the 308GT4 Azzurro Metalizzato is the same as the Dino, so it would kind of make some sense, i suppose that the next model in the line up would use the same colours ,especially as the paint came from the same supplier....... but then when did logic and sense ever come into Maranello thinking! BR, Jez
You missed the Azzurro metallic in the Bluemel list. So six blues. p.s. the colour certificate for my car mentions Blu Dino, without the metallic reference. But since the Smurf blue is called Azzurro Dino, the difference between metallic and non-metallic is evident (I consider Blu Dino the metallic version of Azzurro Dino).
Agree that Blu Dino for our cars is the Metalizzatto... Here's the best sample from my car that I have found so far, it's from the inside of the door and I uncovered it by rubbing off the rubber cement that held the plastic weather shield sheeting in place. The color is very good, but the finish is rough like sandpaper. Thoughts? Ciao! Hannibal Image Unavailable, Please Login
So now we have: Blu Scurro Dino Azzurro Dino Blu Montecarlo Blu Dino Met Blu Sera Met Azzurro Met Peter, I nominate your car as the example for Blu Dino Met. Can others post pics of their cars with other blues, preferably taken in sunlight (sorry UK owners). I think it would be nice to have examples to look at. Thanks to all for contributing as I think the blues are wonderful colors for Ferraris. Ciao! Hannibal
