Lawyers can chime in but I believe you have to protect your logo marks and trade marks otherwise you risk loosing your claim. It looks lame but I'm sure it's just routine practice to send a letter like this when someone starts messing with your brand mark. I doubt they really give a ****.

    Fair enough.

Besides, that thing looked rediculous anyway.

I agree first this, next a a tuner could create their own "Ferrari". Needs to be crushed.

Majority of the tweets comprise the usual ugly comments.

But one stands out differently and nails it for me. It says the people who would really suffer from a decline in Ferrari's image is its workforce. It "disrespects" them.

Dicking around with a brand shouldn't be for ****s and giggles. It could reduce prestige if widely replicated and that will eventually lead to lower sales, and then job losses. That's neither right, nor fair.

He bought it. Ferrari no longer owns the badges.

Unless you're one of those communists that believes in "intellectual property".

My life's goal is to buy a nice Ferrari (i.e. one before 1999) and do this to it.

I notice no one criticized James Glickenhaus for doing basically the same thing when the wops screwed him on the REAL P4 he owned and couldn't get certified.

It's his car he can do what he wants and it's only a wrap. He didn't make the money to buy the Ferrari from being boring. Petty move from Ferrari imo.

    Really don't get this.

So now Bentley is going after Paris Hilton for having a pink Conti GT with stupid rims, and her initials instead of the B logo?

Doesn't make sense to me. It's his car, he can do whatever he wants with it. he payed for it, his property.

If they are concerned about brand image, they should go after Mansory as we'll, since they seem to crap on Ferrari's every other month.

Wow... really... a "wop" reference? Do you even know what that means? It stands for "without papers" and was used as a derogatory expression towards those that immigrated to America (particularly Italians). Since you are referring to actual Italians (ergo, the Ferrari company) and not immigrated Italians to America, your derogatory reference truly augments the fact that your ignorance knows no bounds.

    No room for that here.

On topic: It's his car, it looked corny, and was no threat to the brand. Ferrari-USA should lighten-up. After all, I've seen just as bad, if not worse, things done to Ferrari's out in some of those oil rich countries.

He's also currently getting used by Disney, for the Mickey Mouse image!
I guess Disney doesn't like his stage presence.

As a long time ferrari lover and owner I can say ferrari needs to remove focus from this and place focus on building race cars worthy of the legacy the man built.

Actually I suspect the op is on firm legal ground as it may be protected by satire speech and that he is not financially gaining from doing it. BUT, if FNA decided to go to court, it would cost him to defend it... FNA do it because they can...

    All IMVHO of course!

Isn't this simple copyright infringement? You may debadge the car and wrap it in whatever hideous way you wish; however you may not alter the logo as is the case here. That is an infringement and as the copyright is legally protected, Ferrari is simply asserting its rights. May seem petty, but it's the law. If it were our company and our logo, would we do anything different?

I'm not a lawyer but a satirical use of a logo is usually protected speech. That's how SNL and others get away with mocking big companies.

I don't quite know what FNA is upset with but I doubt they would succeed in court with shutting the guy down. But he might have to pay for a lawyer which is prohibitive. So sending a letter doesn't cost FNA anything and helps keeps the satirists away! 8^)

I remember when I was younger MAD Magazine would have all kinds of parodies, including logo alteration ... But the difference was that those were in print. If MAD Magazine actually produced a bag of nacho cheese tortilla chips that looked exactly like Doritos but instead were called "Don't Dare-Eat-Those" (that's the only one I actually remember) I'm pretty sure there would be a copyright lawsuit. But you are probably correct ... This was more about pressuring him to stop as opposed to legal merit.

well he is back with this now.

    LOL

    From the article:
Everyone wondered what would be the next supercar in Joel’s fleet be. Now we all know he is a huge McLaren fan and has a stunning McLaren P1 and a McLaren 650S Spider in the garage. Turns out he has also bought a Lambogrhini Huracan and this time it’s this supercar which has undergone the trademark Deadmau5 customization treatment.

Why does it make you a communist to want to protect something you've worked hard to establish? In fact, it makes you a communist to think you can own something that someone else has worked hard over.
