    Let's see tonight's auction.

A few dealers have sold F40s for 700+GBP, my figure was stipulating the prices currently on market. Also noting the currency conversion etc.

Just saw an F40 the other day with its vintage Motorola/Ameritech phone still mounted. Will this add to the price as a vintage upgrade, or detract from the price as something to be removed with holes to be filled?

Those phones are worth a mint now so it'll add to the price ;)

I think there is 20% vat on the 12% commission so total price 680gbp at hammer, gbp 781 total at xrate of 1.6110 = $1,253,000

Good question, it was a bit shabby by all accounts, but was 1 owner and non cat non adjust and 18,500 km is lower mileage than many in europe, plus the car can now be imported into the USA (I think) since it is over 25 years old.

How much would this car have brought if it was a 3,000 km 1 owner car?
    I'm guessing $1.4m.

How much would a US car, 2,000 mile garage queen, tools, luggage, classiche bring?
    I'm guessing $1.5m.

So I guess market for most F40s is $1.1m - $1.5m is that fair?

What is the average mileage for a Euro car, over 20,000km? So what would be the market for a Euro car over 25,000km?

I don't know much on Euro cars - others will chime in.

I remember the car that sold in Paris at the RM auction in February 2014 had 50,000 km and it sold for e515,000. the exchange rate was around 1.3550 at the time so around $700k.

Market is probably 20% higher now, so is that an $850k car now? Maybe.

So how about this as a guess:

    If a 20,000 km euro car is $1.25m (e970k at 1.29) and 50,000 km car is $850k (e660k),
then the value of your euro F40 above 20,000 km is e970k less 10 euros for evey km over 20,000!

(ok obvisouly this is dumb and overly simplisitc - it's just meant to be fun)

As a few guys have said, the condition of the car that sold at RM was questionable. Don't worry about mileage too much, you also have to take into consideration the condition a car is in. I would pay more for condition over mileage.

I think that is a very important point. People forget these cars are 25 years old because they look so good even today, an icon. Think of a 250 GTO in 1990 and if they had not been restored by then, chances are they needed to be and to a lesser degree that is the same with the F40 (many having had an easier life than racing GTOs). Having just gone through it, it is not a cheap venture.

I was there today and that F40 did not look a 18500kms car...not even from far!
Friend of mine wanted to bid but after some research and a couple of calls to Michelotto (last one to service the car before its arrival in the UK) he decided he would have been wiser to stay away...front clam was not original and not one of the nice aftermarket ones you often see, seat's fabric was in very bad conditions, non original tanks and very poor service history! Having spoke to the big dealers in the room everybody seemed to agree that the car wasn't a good car...so amazing result all in! Waiting for the Violati's car to go under the hammer at the end of the week!!
