    Hi everyone.....

I know there's been numerous posts on this subject but my 355 roof problem is doing my head in! The issue is a common one - during the opening procedure the roof will not fold back far enough to clear the seats. It will collapse fully via the override switch but then remains sticking forwards behind the seats c.10 inches.

I've tried bleeding the system, I have checked the hydraulic level, both sets of rams 'appear' to be working correctly, I've tried helping the front bar up and the second bar down etc..... But no joy. All micro switches are working correctly and the closing procedure is faultless (secondary rams finishing the job nicely).

Any ideas / help is greatly appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Mark.

I really wish I could help you. Mine won't go up or down fully, either with the override button or the manual method.

It's being strapped down and put on a flatbed to go in and get fixed. I hope you find out the reason.

This sucks not being able to drive it.

Mine was faulty when I purchased the car. I knew working on it was way over my skill set ( which is low on the scale ) thinking I was ready to try the manual conversion. But my favorite Indy shop in Portland OR fixed it and it works great. Not cheap but having a top that works every time helped me forget how much it cost me. Good luck and well worth the mental peace and serenity looking back.

It would be nice if you can find out "what fixes" they did?

Got it seems I bought a new pass side potentiometer.
Then we have the 5 hour ...plus.... Adjust top and bleed top hydraulics as required ( damaged due to manual raise/lowering) ....I helped with this damage ... ;) Total was about $1500, was not happy at the time ..... Remove/re-install the seat is in there, but DONE with that ........ And a 1000 miles of exhaust music somehow made me forget about that whole issue, and happy it is behind me.
I played with the "emergency" switch to open and close for way to long, when my mind said just rip out the wiring ...... Or go with the manual conversation I knew I was done and took it in. Wish you luck on your fix.
They were also playing with the micro switch/computer ???? Way over my head for a convertible top.

Also I still watch for the cross bar ( 8-10" ) from the front to "flip back" after I have unlocked the front and start to push it back, before it would not "flip back" and slammed the top into the seats ..think that was the cause.. When it beeps is when I check it.

    Got it.

The potentiometer (EE speaks for seat position sensor) when broken will not allow the computer to open or close the roof. It will just beep and stop.

Replacement of said seat position sensor is at least 2 hours because you have to remove the seat from the car, the seat from its mounting frame, then replace the sensor, and reverse the process. 4 hours for 2 seats.

Adjust top and bleed top can also be very lengthy.

Only an Italian could out Rube Goldberg Rube Goldberg. How much weight (and money) could have been saved with a manual top?

Even Ferrari shook their head over that top.

But then the pot needs to be calibrated to the ECU or the ECU calibrated to the top. The former is a real time consuming PIA and the latter only accomplished by an SD1. SD1's are getting rare.

On the B cars convertable roof issues were replaced with hairline cracks where the roof meets the rear panel along the engine bay. I wanted a B car, probably should have but the one I REALLY wanted had hairline cracks the full length on both sides.
