Wow, Harri, small world indeed! That's cool to have you here. I do not qualify as an owner, as my GTB is Euro, and this thread is only for US GTBs. But I try to bring any information I can find, and I found your car as I was surfing on the net yesterday; as she is a US Market car at the origin, she is in Furmano's list...so the fact that she is now in Finland is another small information useful to him. As I said, I have probably seen your car in the past in Luxemburg. Rgds
1988 Ferrari 328 GTB with 18,685 miles listed for $99,500 in Ebay and at Motorcars International! VIN: 75808 Ferrari 328 GTB | eBay
Working on an update. But in the meantime, I recreated the dealer list from the 1986 Warranty Book. It's fun to see what the US Ferrari dealer landscape looked like in 1986. Some are still around, some not. -F Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
The dealer list is interesting. 61177 was originally purchased at Shelton Ferrari in Ft. Lauderdale. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Nice dealer sticker! I have the details of 61177 in the registry. Also, I have the note that the roof spoiler is textured, like on the GTS's, not smooth like on 99% of the GTB's. Can you confirm this? Hope to have an update soon. -F
Interesting. I did not know there was a difference in the roof spoilers between the GTS and GTB. I don't have a GTS to compare to, but mine appears to be textured. Attached is a picture, but not a great one. If this GTB really has a different spoiler, I wonder why. I bet there is a GTS out there with this car's intended spoiler on it. It's amazing what you can learn on the internet. I would love to hear any additional notes you have about this car. If you want any info from me, I do have most, if not all of the service records, so I know who has owned the car and where it has lived. Image Unavailable, Please Login
The spoiler on my B is textured. I've seen 3 other B's before and all were textured. This is the first time I'm hearing there was an option for a smooth spoiler. Do you mean painted?
It is not as "clear cut" as it might seem, Duane, and it has already been discussed here about a year ago. Basically yes, there are two different spoilers, with two different part références, and - it seems - that the textured one was intended to match the targa top material of the GTS when not painted. The smooth one was for the GTSs that had the roof spoiler in body color, which is fairly common in most european markets (but not all: french Ferraris always had it black). Most GTBs got the smoth one even when left not painted, but some also have the textured one, there does not seem to be an absolute rule for this. Rgds
I think the standard configuration for GTB's is smooth, not textured. And when I say smooth, I don't mean painted the body color but dark with a smooth finish. Almost like the satin black seen on some 599 GTO's. Joe, can you check that dealer sticker to see if it says anything about a spoiler option? -F
Unless the more educated sees something that I don't, there isn't any mention of the spoiler on the dealer sticker. It looks like the only option is the metallic paint for $880. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Sorry for beating a dead horse... The roof spoiler wasn't an option on North American cars, all North American 328 were delivered from the factory with a black roof spoiler. The roof spoiler was an option on "other markets" 328, for which you had to pay extra. In most markets (but not in France, it seems) should you opt for a roof spoiler, then you could have it painted body color at no extra cost. Rgds
That explains why all the GTB's I've seen in person have the black textured spoiler. I've only seen them here in the States and I'll guess they're all USA models.
Yes Duane, in a way...because I seem to recall that there are also some american owners of american-market GTBs, but with the smooth roof spoiler in black...already discussed here a year ago I believe. Rgds
Ah, that's the story I had in mind, now I remember, Len! In fact, I have the luxury of a rather "detached" point of view on the question, as 81085, my own GTB, being "Euro", has no roof spoiler at all: the option was not choosen by the first owner. So no problem of "textured" or "smooth" on that one... 80515, my GTS has a smooth one, because being German market at origin, she was ordered with a painted spoiler (black metallic), so smooth it should be, and it is. Rgds
Good discussion on a detail of the model. I believe a smooth spoiler is the default and more common configuration. But there are more examples of GTB's with a textured spoiler than I realized. I will add that note to the registry. Thanks for that. Regarding any further history on your car it seems like you have all the records and ownership history. I don't have anything further to add except to say Met. Nero is a rare color. You can see based on what's in the registry, only a handful of GTB's were imported to the US in that color. -F
For a while I thought the textured spoiler on my car was idiosyncratic of 328s produced in late '85; I also have a few other features that seem to be a carry over from the 308 production runfull size spare and 308 style side view mirror front inserts...
