Will the 360 ever be as dear as the 993TT?

An Arena red, 1996 has come on the market for NZ$139900. That's $40K more than I sold mine for only 2 years ago. Amazing!

But I still have to wonder if people actually pay these prices being asked.

I wonder what will happen to the 360 long term, not that I care.
But man these air coolers are heading north big time.

I was actually tempted just a bit, for about an hour. I'm still tempted to use the old plate I kept. It could mean I don't drive in the wet

I love my 360,but the 993 tt is one of my desire cars,the 993 tt prices they are so hi because is arare car i dont think they made that much as the 360 ,that is one of the concecuenses of those prices on 993 tt ,and is a extrmetly fast car ,i belive that the only 360 that is going to mantein hes price is the stradalle, but stell the 360 forme is one of the beautifull ferraris ever built ,is the one that jump start the new ferrari generation ,430,458

 

I think there were only about 6000 993 turbos produced, 360's were north or south of 17,000. If I'm correct, that's a big difference in numbers which I think will keep the 360 out of the same collectible appreciation as the 993 for a very long time. Total 993 production was somewhere in the 24,000, this includes all the models, pretty small amount considering how many variants there were in the 993 model and the production span from 1995-1998. I think the CS is the only 360 that will ever stay or surpass the mighty 993TT.

 

The Ferrari 360 is better looking, costs less, and performs similarly? Remind me again why I should care what liquid Porsche uses for cooling?

 

I agree re the performance. There's not a lot in it.
In all honesty I can drive the 360 faster than I could ever dive the TT. The 360 felts better balanced.
That fear of losing the rear end and becoming a passenger was always in the back of my mind.
This is probably because I put the TT into a wall at the track. When they go, they go!

I'd still like to see one sell for the asking prices all the same.

Best P mechanic on the east coast told me to skip the 993 and get the 996!!! He always has a few 993 TT's in his shop.

 

I recognize this is a joke, however, the water cooling of 911's was a major turning point for Porsche and the values of them used, it a significant reference to the financial side.

I often wonder if the three pedal Ferrari stuff will go the same direction down the road.

I've been helping a friend acquire a 993. They're tough to get ands the prices keep rising. Things like this make me shy away and look for something else.

Yes, Ferrari 3-pedal cars are the right comparison to be making. Folks looking for a purist sports car are very likely to find a Ferrari with 3-pedals to be representative of the ultimate experience.

And honestly, the 3-pedal driving experience is at least worth paying for. Anyone who says they can feel how the radiator is working from the steering wheel is a moron.

Apples and oranges. The 993 in all variants is an iconic Porsche as the last of the air cooled cars..... add to that...... the styling is perfect! You have recipe for a winner.

The standard 360 doesn't quite fit the bill. The CS on the other hand is an entirely different story.

 

993s and 911s are in such a bubble right now. No reason it shouldn't pop. Appreciation yes.. rocket ship to the moon prices.. No.

 

All collectible cars are in a bubble. The Porsche market has heated up because the classic Ferrari market already went on a rocket ship to the moon and now other brands with big followings are getting a lift. You have seen the same action in classic muscle cars for a few years now.

Anyways, I still think this post in a Ferrari 360/430 forum is dumb. You might as well go to a Corvette forum and start posting about how you wonder if Corvettes will ever be as beloved as Mustangs. Next.

 

So what are the fins on the cylinders for? They are both oil and air cooled, but commonly referred to as simply air cooled.

You can bet that those 6,000 Turbos wouldn't be so desirable if they had a lot of extra garbage in them like flappy paddles and all the systems to keep that in check. Do they look nice? Yes, that's why they sold 68,000 993's.

The no nonsense 360 is thankfully the Modena w/manual trans (proud owner disclaimer), of which somewhere just north of 2,000 examples remain.

Id put the 360 with the 997 turbo. Both amazing cars for the $. The 993 tt is the last of an era and truly a collectors item. Since Ferrari had increased production the cars aren't as collectible or sought after as the Enzo era cars

Technically all 993's have radiators, it is their oil cooler.

The Bugatti Veyron is known for having 10 radiators, some are water to air, some are air to air, and some are oil to air, they all use different mediums to exchange heat, but they are all radiators by definition.

 

I can relate to 993man, I sold this amazing 930 when I bought my 360 a few years ago. Since that time the value has DOUBLED to $80K plus for pristine examples. If by "dear", you mean valuable, then I do think the 993 turbo has a good chance at being a high dollar collectible. They are amazing cars and I aspire to own one if I ever get to build my collection of dream cars. Arena Red Ruf version for me, please.

My 930 had 32K miles, all stock parts in boxes, and was built to be as close to perfect as I could justify without doing anything that could not be put back to 100% stock. But that meant I could still do a ton of things to wake up the car like intake, exhaust, turbo, suspension and a lot of interior mods.

The Ruf Yellowbird has always been one of my dream cars and this was my way of getting close to the experience on a much more modest budget. With around 450 hp and even more torque, this car would scare you if you you weren't very careful and respectful of its tremendous power and relative light weight. I tracked it a few times but it was SO clean I felt bad about it every time and decided not to put unnecessary paint chips in such a pristine example. I knew it was going up in value... but not THIS much THIS fast. The air-cooled market is HOT HOT HOT!

I had a k27 turbo all the other major mods that really update the performance of those single turbo cars. A little different than the 993 experience but they share a lot more than the 996 and beyond version of the "911". (I say that in quotes because I feel that the new 911 is too bloated and lost what was so special in the 993 and its 30+ year lineage, which is why I daily drive a new cayman with PDK... but that's a different story altogether.)

I owned my 930 for 8 years and loved every second of it. I'm kicking myself now but I sold it because I ran out of space so there wasn't much I could do if I wanted to get a Ferrari. Like many, the Ferrari was also a dream so I let go of the best car I had ever owned... in order to fulfill the ultimate fantasy of owning a Ferrari. The 360 has been an absolute thrill and in that respect I have absolutely NO regrets. They are both amazing cars and I wish I could have kept it, but life is full of choices and compromise and we are lucky to have such amazing toys available for our enjoyment. I fully intend to have a least one of the old 911's again some day. They are such amazing and unique cars and the driving experience is like nothing else.

It is interesting when I look back and compare the two. Both are pure sports cars that have a lightweight feeling on the road and plenty of power to get yourself into trouble on road or track. Both are "alive" in your hands when driving. Both have peaky engine characteristics. With a turbo upgrade my 930 didn't really suffer from turbo lag... but it liked being run hard better than slowly rolling on the throttle, which is similar to the 360s driving characteristics. I actually have come to like it in both cars as it means you can cruise with traffic and they are both rather tame, but when you get on it you really wake up both cars in a rush of power and intoxicating noise.

The 930 felt like a direct connection to the 60s and 70s 911's but with insane power. The 4 speed transmission meant that 1st was good for about 60, 2nd was good for 90, 3rd got you to around 130 and 4th got you to jail. 2nd and 3rd in this 930 is as fun as just about any car on the road. I guarantee it. Oh, plus no power steering or abs. Just you, the car and your skills. Pure driving excitement every time and you ALWAYS treat it with respect. In the 80s they were dubbed the widow-maker. That was with 275 hp. This car was scary but I never ever got in trouble. I have an SCCA racing license and many racing schools / DE's under my belt... which only means I know my limits and driving something like this car WELL but not CRAZY was a whole lot of fun. The feedback was unreal and I could place the car anywhere with the throttle and drift out of corners feeling like "Sideways Stefan" in the yellowbird on the Ring. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rZMODhUS9Bo

The 360 is just different and so "Italian" to the Porsche's "German". My car has straight pipes and tubi so it is a glorious sound when it is at full song. I have a 2nd gear underpass here in Austin that sounds heavenly at 8000 rpm. Feels like Enzo himself is there in the passenger seat. THAT's why I have no regrets whatsoever. This car does everything I need in an exotic sports car. The interior is luxurious (full leather) but primarily focused on the task of driving and providing the ultimate escape when I get behind the wheel (sport seats and 6 speed manual). I can look at it for hours in the garage (same with the 930) and I have a great time just getting in and going for a spirited cruise on a whim (same with the 930). The Ferrari delivers on a different level for me and is so worth the trade off.

As for the money, well I got a smoking deal on my 360 and I don't think it is going to be going down much more from here... it is just too much car for the money at the moment. I can't see them depreciating to 35K anytime soon. Funny that the 930 is worth the same or more than my 360. Oops... wish I would have timed that one a little better. But then again, I have two additional years of Ferrari ownership under my belt and that is worth something. I enjoy driving the 360 more than the 930 (if you put a gun to my head and make me decide)... so that is worth something as well. Again, I consider myself lucky to have these choices so it is really degrees of greatness at this point.

Like everyone, I want more... and many times I want things I can't have. If this is a financial question then I'd say the 993 turbo (or any air-cooled turbo) is a great bet. It will be interesting to see what the 993 tubo and non-CS 360 modena/spider are worth in 2025.

I try not to look at the financials TOO much when I buy cars (or boats, yet another topic for another day) but I also try not to be stupid. For "keepers" I like to buy great cars that have bottomed out of their depreciation curve. I did that for the 930 and I think I did that for the 360 as well. Only time will tell, in the meantime I'm going to drive and enjoy and make my money elsewhere so one day I can have collection of these things laying around to play with.

Point of this rambling? Unless you're a serious car collector I say don't think about it and enjoy the experience. Life's too short to turn a passion into an unhealthy obsession.
