Can you tell us the details of the claim?

Was it YOUR car during that time, or did you buy into it, as Salvage Title??

...and I am still interested, or I would not be in the thread!
    Reconsider my offer.....

You are way underplaying the value of that "piece of paper". From someone that just recently sold a car with a previous salvage title, it goes from a very desirable car (without that piece of paper) , to one that nobody wants. Fair or not, that's the way it is.

Tom, why not edit your first post with "Salvage Title" ??

    Tom,

I spoke with you via email several times around the first of the year (give or take). I initially contacted you because of the red wheels on your car and how at the time your car looked very similar to another 348 that was for sale in CA at a Mercedes dealer. I wanted to know if the two cars were the same and they obviously were not.

Through our converstaions you then revealed that the car was/could be for sale because it was not getting used and we went back and forth about price. Once you let me know about the title, I made you a serious offer of $28k.

In one of our email converstaions you told me that you had over the course of time (or at one single point) like 15 corvettes... how would I know something like that if we had never conversed?

Its a mute point between us now since I found another 348 much closer and still in my price range just a couple months later.

I hope you get as much as you can for your car. It has low miles, service history and is in good shape. Sadly the reality is that because of the title issue your potential buyer pool (especially with ferraris/exotics) is greatly limited.

You can only edit a post for 30 minutes, a thread title, not at all.

A Moderator has to do it, for a thread title or an older post...

    Tom,

You are TOTALLY out of line!

Your explanation of not disclosing the title info in your ad is total BS and you owe 123Howie an apology for your tirade.

Agreed, that is why I included this:

"Now there is room for error here, perhaps the insurance company that salvaged it didn't evaluate it properly, maybe the damage was less than they thought, nevertheless, it is an irreversible action."

It sounds as if you are in the repair industry, I appreciate that you have shed some more light around the process. Like I said though, a salvage title regardless of what caused it is irreversible and significantly affects the vehicles value.

No, long term vintage Ferrari owner, that has been hit, and hit others also...
Parts is what screws the pooch, but a 40 year old car is running 40 year old parts!!!

The newer cars are different in that regard.

It also hinges on the level of fit and finish.

A 328 is a modern production car, high level of construction.

I can look on my 1976, 1977 308s and find hammer marks on the door skins and hood, where they were just "getting the hang of it"!!!
    :D :D :D

The modern insurance industry is not equipped to deal with cars like mine.

And to pay the Ferrari dealer to install and paint the monolithic front clip ($7K if you can FIND one..) well, it would be about $22K. That was dangerously close to my $30K stated value....so we went with welding and repair panels, on the front 8" of the car.

Explain "pristine" and "salvage title" used to describe the same car.

Tom is obviously being pretty clear in his disclosure this time around...why ask a question that was clearly stated/answered in the description/post?

I'm more curious as to why the salvage title than that it has one. That's a hell of a deal...

Call Andy Falbo and ask about the details of the car. From personal experience I can say that Andy Falbo open to talking to potential purchaser of his client's cars.

So what is the reason of the salvage title?

At $30k, i would say it's an OK deal if the belts are up to date.

Do you mean the content in post #20? The way that content is worded it just sounds like he is describing two different scenarios as to how a Ferrari could acquire a salvage title. Was it expressly confirmed that this car was a theft recovery with no damage or accident history?

It wouldn't take much for a car to get a salvage title, especially a high end car like this where the value of the car is at it's bottom. Even a minor accident that causes no structural damage can easily exceed the the threshold of what a car is worth and at what point an insurance company just "totals" it. At that point the car gets a Salvage title, someone else buys it and does the repair work. $30K for that car is a steal unless someone can find out what the damage was, water or otherwise and finds the damage has really created an issue with the integrity of the car.

To put it another way, the convertible top for my Mondial t costs $31K for the full top w/ frame, etc. Hypothetically if something happened to that top, a tree branch falling on it bending it beyond repair the insurance company would most likely "total" the car. In the case of my car, it's in otherwise perfect condition and just had the major service 500 miles ago. I wouldn't worry about a salvage title on it. I'd buy it again.

Agreed. It sounded like a general description rather than the specific incident concerning this car.

Additionally if it was stolen, was there any damage to the vehicle? Pics?

Not being difficult here, but I was about to PM the seller with these same questions until I saw SPDRCR's post.

IF YOUR NOT A BUYER, WHY WOULD IT AFFECT YOU SO YOU FELT IT MUST BE BROADCAST OTHER THAN TO FLOAT YOUR OWN BOAT SO TO SPEAK. I DO NOT NAME CALL OR HAVE ANY INTENT TO INSULT ANY INDIVIDUAL OR THIS FORUM. bUT I DO HAVE THE RIGHT TO MAKE PUBLIC WHAT INFORMATION I CHOOSE AND FIND IT ODD THAT NON BUYERS MUST BROADCAST IT AS PUBLIC. INTERESTED BUYERS WILL HAVE ALREADY BEEN INFORMED. THANKS FOR YOUR QUESTION, HOPE i HAVE MADE IT CLEAR THAT NO INTENT TO "DEFRAUD" WAS INTENDED.

My first comment in this area, However, you either want a junk title car or you do not. Arguing has little merit. The car is what it has been described to be. Continue and negotiate or move on. At least the owner has been honest.
