I just got a set of staggered 19" / 20" wheels for my 360. Previous owner had 235/35-19 and 285/30-20 Pirelli on the wheels. I currently have Bridgestone on stock wheels. I have been told the "stones" have reinforced sidewalls which are better for cornering, but the Pirellii are OEM for 599's... Anyone have a recommendation of brand/model of tire, and where to order them? Image Unavailable, Please Login
Somebody is blowing smoke vertically. Run flats have reinforced sidewalls, but generally ride and corner worse than equivalent standard tires. The best street tires for Ferraris out there now are Michelin Pilot Super Sports (MPSS). Tirerack is a great place to buy them and I just bought 4 MPSS from them for my 575M. MPSS tires were introduced on the 599 GTO in 2011. Both of those tire sizes (235/35 19 and 285/30 20) are available from TireRack for the MPSS. Since you did not give any wheel widths, have to assume those sizes work. Diameters are close enough to OEM not to give any ABS/ASR problems.
Widths (relative to the wheel) are good in the front and slightly too narrow in the rear. It is fine for street or spirited driving but I would keep a close on on temps if I was to try a track day. And yes, Tirerack has several things that will fit.
They used to be his wheels! VELLANO FORGED WHEELS I'm assuming the widths listed here are the same as the ones I just bought??
Michelin pilot super sport. I have a 255/30/19 Front and a 325/25/20 Rear. I started with PZero's Rosso's. They are a decent tire, but way too soft. They don't nearly track, handle or ride as well as the MPSS. PZeros wear quite a bit faster. It's been a night and day difference between the two tires.
Did you have to modify (roll) your fenders to get that to fit? Any difference in that regard between a Modena and Spider?
I guess that would explain it. For the rears, 295/30 20s are for 11" wide rims, vs the 10.5" max rim width for the 285/30 20s.
Taz, could you PM me? It's the first time I have attempted to change wheels on a car myself (that didn't already have tires on them). I'd rather not make a mistake, so I just looking for more info.
I do not do PMs because I get all kinds of questions I am not qualified to answer. You can e-mail me at [email protected]. The trick is to go to TireRack's website and look up the Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires and go to the specs section. That shows the minimum and maximum rim width for that tire, plus diameter and other measurements. It also shows the width of wheel used for the measurements they quote. That data comes directly from Michelin and the data is not always available on Michelin's website in a usable form. The other thing you want to make sure is that the front to rear differential between tire diameters is within about 4-5% of OEM or the ABS/ASR system may cause problems. On the 360, OEM sizes are 215/45 18 F and 275/40 18 R. That makes those diameters: F (215x0.45x2)/25.4+18=25.62" R (275x0.40x2)/25.4+18=26.66" F to R differential=26.66-25.62=1.04"/25.62"=4.06% F 235/35 19 diameter is 25.48" R 295/30 20 diameter is 26.97" F to R differential is 5.85% or only 1.79% more than OEM 4.06% so will work fine.
why do staggering? why not just do the same size height wheel front and back? I see a few people with 19" front & 20" rears... why?
For looks. The rear can handle a 20 but the front cannot. IMHO of course. I would probably stay with 19 F and R if I changed wheels.
I ended up getting the Michellen Pilot Super Sport tires ( 295/30 20 and 235/35 19) from Discount tire, for less than the Pirelli! Thanks for all of the suggestions and help.
Yes I know some cars come staggered, and matching the factory set up seems like the right thing to do, I was just wondering on our cars why some go to a 20" rear while leaving the front with the stock 19" size, I have seen many of our cars with aftermarket wheels, most seem to do 20" all around... I'm looking to do wheels myself, and I didn't know if going to a 20" front or rear would have any drawbacks..... Oh and falcon.... Those wheels look hot.... I think those might be the ones I was looking to buy from another member on here.... Post some pic's when the wheels are on.
These are very nice -- what's the brand? What about the weights for these larger 19/20" setups, especially with 3-piece forged or equivalent?
SUCCESS! Thanks for all of the input. I really like how it turned out. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Fantastic. I almost bought those for my 430. I like the polished lip. IMO one of the best looking wheels.
