Yikes. Looks like you might want to hang on to your naturally aspirated Ferrari: All Future Ferrari Engines Will Be Turbo'd or Hybridized ?*News ?*Car and Driver | Car and Driver Blog
Its unfortunate from my perspective although as I say that the 288GTO and F40 are tso of my favorite Ferraris ever. PDG
Maybe true about V12; but, electricity also adds weight, cost, complexity, and potential fire hazards. I'm fine with the hybrids for commuter cars - saves energy and less stress on environment - but, not so sold on use in occasionally driven sports cars.
It could be. I wonder if a TTV6 would be better in that you get a nice amount of HP and Torque in a smaller package which enables you to go smaller and lighter. Same for 12's. A WTT 12 is much more compact and can make huge HP and Torque.
Metcalfe, putting Lambo emissions in perspective, back in evo #134: This is all out of envy, a fundamental which is usually rooted in a profound disdain for this life. (I love how the Left condescends to religious people, then engages in various varieties of diehard mysticism to find both the causes and mechanisms that enable statism.)
At least Lamborghini has kept its V-10 and V-12's normally aspirated so far..but again they have not have been as mass produced as Ferrari...
If they have to do something, does it have to be Turbo? What about Super-Charging? Those seem to work well for engines that like to rev very high, verses Turbos that are good for lower-rev engines. I hear SuperChargers are easier to pass smog-related tests as well.
In the US and Europe where the regulations that are causing this have become law, the majority elect. Those elected make the rules. Beyond that lies P&R.
I just want to add that a more honest, respectful approach to countering Man's alleged impact on Warming would be to allow each person to determine how he emits his CO2 allotment. Some will choose large homes, others will want to travel extensively, others will want to live far from city centers, others will opt for mass transit for the mundane stuff and drive a string of NA engined sports cars they own/rent for a total of, say, 10K cruising miles /year, or 6K spirited miles/year. This top-down BS, where every aspect of life is decreed through narrowly defined regulations, is one more indicator that we're becoming a totalitarian nation.
It's CAFE as well as emissions. Super Charging takes energy produced by fuel. Turbo's harvest energy that would otherwise be wasted making a more efficient engine. Batteries that harvest otherwise lost energy such as KERS and TERS increase efficiency. Plug in hybrids take energy that is largely produced by burning coal and turn it into energy that can be used to power cars. Plug in hybrids also use petrol to produce electrical energy. Personally I'm not sure this is more than political voodoo. Hybrids that harvest otherwise lost energy KERS/TERS are more efficient.
In thinking about this issue I remembered another point Metcalfe made: If commercial trucks and trailers were to go to composite frames, we could slash emissions to the point where we don't have to compromise cars. Solutions to this non-issue abound. It's telling that they, and we, have settled for the approach that kills off the exceptional, the uber fun, the stuff dreams are made of.
CAFE is also about making us less dependent on the Middle East and Europe less dependent on Russia. That train is not going to slow.
both Bentley and Aston Martin claim that they will build cars with V12 in the future, I hope Ferrari wil not give up with V12
I think I can make the argument that the same cultural collapse that has given the current version of the falling sky myth its momentum, is the same cultural collapse responsible for both the West surrendering its ME oil wells to swordsmen on horseback and Europe's dependence on Russia for energy.
Electric cars have been a complete failure world wide. Good luck selling v12 + electric at an affordable hassle free price point.
