MB's are. You ever drive one of HP's cars? You know their build quality how? Been to his factory? Seen his CF autoclaves? Know the KM per cm deflection of his chassis? Get serious you say? Image Unavailable, Please Login
As we're going to run below 6:30 on the NS lap after lap for 24 and don't have any batteries to worry about non issue for us.
I'd say a Laf should be comfortably below 7. Maybe 6.50 considering an Enzo is a 7.24 car and that was 2003 technology. But that's all I can guess.
BTW, I LOVE Virginia International Raceway (VIR)! It's my home track! I took the 650S there this past Sunday and had the most fun track I've ever had. So much fun! The 650S is just an incredible machine and I'm totally loving it. Myself (P1) and two other owners (918 and LaFerrari) are going to rent VIR for a day and get to drive each others cars all day long. We plan to also get a proper race driver out to show us how it's supposed to be done. As the other two owners are pretty close with their respective factories I'm certain we won't be releasing and times however. This is just going to be for our personal fun and I'm sure we'll make a nice celebration out of it. Here I am in my 650S from Sunday... Image Unavailable, Please Login
You are going to get a 918 and a P1 and a LF out to VIR on the same day, bring along a pro driver, presumably collect video and telemetry, and then not share laptimes? That's... That's... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nGeKSiCQkPw
I feel the same way. McLaren say they brought some of the knowledge learned making the P1 down to the 650S and, after 1600 miles in my 650S in the past 6 weeks & a great track day, I'm really starting to see what they meant. McLaren seems to have found that extra thing that makes you go from respecting their cars to truly loving them. My 12C Spider was plenty fast and fun to drive but there's just something extra about the 650S that makes it just makes it FEEL better. Certainly the changes to the brakes are a big part of it but the steering feel, the way the car handles corners, the incredibly quick & smooth shifts, the extra surge and the even more put-together chassis, and the new Corsa tires just make the car so sublime. They took an already amazing car and made it a few notches better. It's amazing on the road and even more amazing on the track. To me what makes the P1 more enjoyable than the 918 is the way it makes you feel when you drive it. It's like a giant go-kart willing to go exactly where you want it and change directions on a whim. It just growls and whooshes at you so seductively. It is incredibly fleet under foot and feeds back such deep levels of information from the steering, the seat of your pants, and the brakes - oh those amazing brakes. I have truly become a McLaren fanboy. They've gotten in my blood the way Ferraris have been in my blood for a long time. I honestly never expected that. I came for the technology (the carbon fiber chassis, powerful turbo engines and incredible suspension) and stayed for the passion and the emotion I'm feeling when driving them. Yes, "passion" and "emotion" words usually reserved for Ferrari, but I'm promising you that McLaren is gaining those qualities through amazing cars like the P1 and 650S. If you have the chance to drive them you must. You might just fall in love with them as many of you have fallen in love with Ferrari and Porsche.
So The Owner of the La Monza Lisa, that issued the challenge to Laferrari and Mclaren owners has received an acceptance from a P1 Owner. I hope there is a Laferrari owner that can make it too. Will be an awesome sight
That kind of idiocy turned me off Ferrari completely. You buy multiple new cars from them over the years spending millions in the process, play nice with them always (no flipping, always trading in) so finally you "earn" the privilege to buy the limited edition car like LaF. You have to be obviously successful, independent individual not taking any orders from anyone. ....yet you allow some company you supported financially for all these years buying their product to dictate what you can say or write in a private blog about the ACTUAL performance of a car you yourself now own. Disgusting......
The other two owners are pretty close with the respective factories and I don't think they'd want to test those relationships. This is for our own fun. But you're welcome to come if you'd like.
Now, I have to say, somewhat of a scoop on the Mclaren Life forum in this context as Evo magazine responded directly on said forum as regards the recent 918-P1 test and to questions that had been raised here too: 'McLaren Owner': " (...) Everyone is entitled to their personal preferences.. we have a few very keen Porsche chaps on here.. ! But for those of us who have driven and owned Porsches, Ferraris Astons and so forth, we are slightly confused that you chaps don't or can't find the same enjoyment..[of Mclarens] " 'Evo': "Interesting question! I certainly don't think it's lack of time spent with the cars that is to blame. As you probably know, we had a 12C as a long-term test car on the magazine for seven months and covered over 10,000 miles in it, so we're very familiar with it. Likewise the P1/918 test allowed us to spend several days with the P1 on good roads and on track too – probably as long as any other publication has had with the P1, I'd guess, and quite possibly covering as many miles on challenging roads as many P1 owners have done to date. Perhaps it's worth remembering that we don't dislike McLarens. Not at all. They are, as you say, special cars, and their across-the-board five-star ratings in evo reflects this. We're certainly not saying there isn't enjoyment in a 12C or P1 – far from it – it's just that some of the competition manages to deliver a slightly bigger thrill for us. Hopefully that "edge" is explained by our writers in their copy – I think Viv's concluding paragraphs to the main 918/P1 article explain our thinking on these two cars, for example – because if it isn't then we're not doing our job properly!" (...) "Regarding the lap times, the short answer is that we were asked not to record them on this occasion. This is largely because the two cars were provided for a road test, not lap times. The track element was included so that we could experience the cars on the limit in a safer environment and bag some lairy photography – not always that easy on the road with cars of this calibre. If lap times were to be recorded and published, I would imagine both manufacturers would at least like the opportunity to ensure that their cars were in the best possible position to record their optimum lap time, so fresh tyres on a car with the lightest possible spec, for example. Some manufacturers go to greater lengths than others to ensure their cars are optimised, of course, but we always clearly report when a car arrives with a support crew and a van full of fresh rubber, or when a manufacturer just tosses us the keys and leaves us to it, so that you can draw your own conclusions from that. Are some of the cars non-standard? We have no reason to believe they are, but rest assured we are always on the look-out for anything suspicious. Hope that helps clarify things a little." "we never hide differences of opinion at evo, not least because they often make interesting reading!" 918-P1 Evo Test - Page 58 - McLaren Life
I would think so. I also think the huayra is very detuned from factory. That v12 has a lot more in it.
918 doesnt need to try and match or beat the abilities of the P1, P1 didnt set anything, P1 is the one that needs to try to match or beat the abilities of 918 because that car for now is benchmark.
On the Ring. True. Proven Fastest Time remains 6:57 918. http://www.topgear.com/uk/car-news/mclaren-p1-nurburgring-lap-time-video-2013-12-05
I can understand that to you it may seem true. You have not, for whatever reason, purchased a P1. I have. I repeat, I've been shown the full, unedited clip of their Ring lap where they demolish the time set by the 918. Perhaps I should better use the word obliterate. Nobody expects anybody to believe something they haven't seen, so you well needn't believe me. I'm incredibly proud to have believed in McLaren's P1 from the beginning. I put my money on it and I've been rewarded with the knowledge that the P1 is the Ring King. I can only smile. I'm also expecting my LaFerrari soon and I know I'll enjoy it too, a single man can't have too many hot lovers.
