I was there at the end of the day and saw your car there. Beautiful machine! The track is truly world class now. It's hard to care to go anywhere else. Best!

 

Until they show that clip to everyone 918 is the king of the Ring .It still doesnt make any sense to me that they wouldnt show record lap it is only plus, it would help them a lot in general in sales of 650s because that would show company in great light, and Im still very sceptical of existence of that clip why doesnt any other owner mention that and how come even Jay Leno didnt get to see it?

 

As someone who has over 20 cars and bought another one this week I certainly understand you wanting to own many cars.

I'm glad you don't expect me to believe something I haven't seen.

The P1 is not The Ring King. Stephen driving his Porsche 956 is The Ring King and his time will never be broken. The Modern Ring King is a BMW Z4 which recently broke 8m on the combined NS/GP. That's a NS time of under 6:30. Should you want to see Ring Kings do book a room for mid May next year, find us, which won't be hard and I'll be happy to give you a tour of the Hot Pits. You can then head to the McLaren Lounge and root against us.

 

Stay sceptical. You'll feel a lot better if you do. : )

J, you're as much in the dark as the majority about the P1 Ring laptime, (here we go all over again, forgive me guys). You have no idea and I do. I'm not looking or asking for any disbeliever to believe. I'm content knowing that the P1 has eradicated the 918's laptime.

BTW, you want to offer me a tour of your Hot Pits? Don't be so down on yourself, you expecting a fire already? Remind me to wear my fire resistant overalls. ; )

 

I bet you would be sceptical as well if you were in my position and I was in yours

 

Now that we're no longer using Ferrari based engines that is less of a worry.

That said that fire only cost us 6 Minutes where as our cracking Ferrari chassis cost us an hour and a half.

As we're no longer using Ferrari chassis that is no longer a worry.

This year we will be providing fire proof pit protection for our crew but just in case do bring your own.

It's evident that McLaren signed an agreement with Porsche and Ferrari to not disclose P1s Ring lap times before Porsche has managed to sell all the 918s they need to sell.

Then Ferrari signed it aswell.

Then the LaF will be lapped and the times will not be disclosed until McLaren has managed......

All of this for......huh to not humiliate......heh....so that later.....good neighborhood.......bah.

How do you explain the fact that 918 bested P1 on the track in Spain, as tested by TG in the same conditions
918 out accelerated and outbraked the P1, and had a higher max speed on the straightline?
A track like Nurburgring will suit 918 even more than a smooth moto track.

I'm sorry, but in absense of any independently verified measurement, I'm going to pull my BS card on this. The laws of physics do not bend for anyone.

 

I just came from walking you need to go really I spent the whole day there with Mr.Jamie and Mr.Gerorge and few others from McLaren.

I can't describe the passion McLaren team got the cars the factory so super busy yet quite, clean and friendly I never saw such environment before no upset faces no loud voices etc.

The loudest sound I heard when they been testing a P1 inside the dynamic room then they drove it outside and I heard the exhaust other than that non.

The P13 up and almost ready (can't say more than that)

Then went to MSO and had an apportinity for a privet P1 GTR preview which I'm really considering.

Good news also coming our way.

The plan was to go for few hours visit but it lasted a whole full day i felt home and Jamie and George really down to earth guys.

but sadly I didn't ate the famous McLaren brownie lol.

You forgot to point out it was slower in the bends (lower peak G pulled).

As we all know, Ben Treynor is getting a P1 too. Let's ask him. Ehy Ben, did u get any video where the P1....not saying obliterates the 918, but at least goes under 7 on the Ring ?

 

You mean Ben, not Jim? The reason I ask is because it seems very unlikely that a number which is accessible to all owners stays secret...

If all buyers are able to see this video, the laptime would have leaked. So Rupert must be a special customer with additional priveliges. I do not believe for one second that McLaren will share a continous onboard footage with 375 people outside the factory. Since there haven't been any leaks, I doubt this is the case.

Well I can't speak for him, but I do know that Rupert isn't the only outsider to have been privy to viewing the P1 Ring footage and been made aware of the actual time. Those who make frequent visits to Woking have certainly benefited. I think those that have are also more respectful of the opportunities they are granted than Mister Maranello would like to imagine.

Those who make frequent blablabla might aswell create a fake and post the time, or at least say it beat the 918 or not. Nobody says anything = no record.

It's very easy to tell a friend who in turn tells another friend etc. Those that have seen it must have been very well-behaved.

Even though I don't really care (a 'Ring lap time would not increase or detract my view on any of the three), I'm certain we will see the P1 time somewhere sooner or later. Why McLaren have the gimmick with the "secret laptime" on at the moment I don't understand. What have they got to lose by publishing it if the car is so blisteringly fast?

Until then, the 918 is the champion of the 'Ring. Any talk of a P1 lap time is worthless without an onboard.

 

I've said many times that the P1 bested the 918's 6:57 lap time and I stand by those statements. People who don't want or care to believe won't until they are forced to. Some people do want to believe but just need a form of tangible proof - I get that.

Comments like the ones made by Argosy on the previous page neglect to take into account that the 918 was not at full strength at the point in time when it set its Ring lap time. Porsche insiders made that clear back then (and acknowledge the fact that Porsche spent a further six months extracting more performance from their package) but now seem to want to forget this point when arguing there was no way the P1 could have been faster even though now in production trim the cars are fairly close in reported performance figures. Hmmm...

Porsche seem to be finished with their performance updates but I wouldn't count on the same being true for the group in Woking with the P1.

Yes, and it wouldn't really matter if I wasn't; people are videotaping and spectating at track days, particularly when there are notable cars involved, and some of them will post what they see. So the options are (a) provide your own videos along with context, or (b) watch other videos + speculation emerge, or (c) don't drive the cars at the track. And (c) is not on the table.
