This isn't the first time this has happened with me, not by a long shot, but I figured I'd ask here if anyone has had similar experiences, or if you're a business owner you might wish to chime in.

During the past week I have either left phone messages or contacted through their web site three different retailers.

I contacted them because I am interested in buying their products. I made that very clear in my messages, and was specific about what I wanted. One is an online retailer of car detailing products (voice mail), one is a custom metal working shop (email through web site) and the other is a distributor of high end residential doors and windows (direct email to a specific person I've dealt with before).

So far I have not had a response from any of them. I really don't understand that. When I was in business, I had a standard rule: Every phone call (and eventually, email) gets a response within 24 hours, even if it's just an acknowledgement to say we got your message and we'll be in touch with you by x-date. Is this too much to expect?

HelllOOOoooo....I'm trying to give you some business. Do you not care or are your people simply not well trained? I can't think of any other explanations.

Try calling a GM dealer and attempt to schedule recall related work. "Sir may I place you on a quick hold"........ line goes dead. Call back and when the switchboard transfers your call to 'service' it goes directly to the voice mail and they never call back. Not one, not two but three GM dealers. Guess I'll just drive in for a little face to face.

Tell them your ignition switch is trying to kill you and it might get their attention.

About once a month a group from my office goes to dinner on a Friday night. Its typically about 75 professionals who order and pay and tip. You wouldn't believe the grief we get from restaurants who don't want to deal with us showing up at 10:00pm on a Friday night (and we always call ahead to warn them). If I owned a restaurant I'd be PRAYING for a flood of patrons. Common sense isn't that common...

Thats surprising, because they bill GM for that warranty/recall work, don't they? Seems like free money to me.

Just a follow up. I went in person to the service department of one of the three dealers I attempted to get recall work scheduled. (Currently 4 recalls on my g-6) I presented them with the - bring your car in we have the parts - for two of the four - and was told to wait until I had all four letters so they could do it all at once! I guess I'm going to have to get a bit more angry next week and raise a stick in the dealership showroom.

That kind of "service" is just ****. They sell you a defective product and then will fix it only at their convenience. That's the kind of thing that gets me in the general manager's face. This is one of many reasons why I will never, ever, own a GM product.

Warranty & recall work is billed at a much lower rate, so if they can keep the shop full of out-of-warranty cars, they have no interest in warranty work.

And deservedly so. Next time, no phony "bailout."
