Well you know that's exactly what I was thinking! I used to post from time to time but I've got sick of all the *****in that goes on here! Maybe it needs to be renamed ferrari whine instead. I have said it before there cars that's all ,they all break! Now that's a fact we can all agree on. Why not just be grateful u own one of the most beautiful cars on the planet period. I have an f1 and love it but I'd also own a manual. For me it took ten years to save up for one of these beautiful pieces of engineering. I bought it with my heart not my head. If you want to buy a car with your head get a vw golf. To all the moaners on this forum in my opinion it really is quite pathetic!
Finally, some impartiality and good sense, coming from first hand knowledge. - There will never be a definitive answer in the F1 vs manual debate. - There's a lot of whining and speculation by owners to artificially inflate prices. - We own what is perceived and generally considered one of the greatest sports cars ever made on this planet. Lets enjoy them in good health, regardless of the transmission, and make the most of it. - Things break, both manual and automatic, especially in an exotic performance car that revs all the way to 8500 rpm. Ferrari is a symbol of wealth, luxury and speed. It's an all exclusive club, one of the most exclusive in the world if not the most of all. Repairs are the admission fee, and still there are overwhelming examples of F1 reliability but for some reason, only the very few sensationalist remarks are taken into account. Like psychoanalysis: it's one great and rich theory regarding mental health as a whole but all people care about and talk about what? SEX. Regards, Nuno.
I agree with you on part of this. It is speculative. As far as manual owners trying to inflate the value of their cars, I disagree. I think some like the manual for its driving experience and some like the F1 for the same. Being the first time this system was on a road car, I think the added complexity can scare off buyers. Just as when they read about other potential 355 issues which can scare off buyers from purchasing either version. The cars that have exceptionally low miles, have had the 355 issues addressed will bring in the biggest prices. Of course there are always exceptions. There was a little over 11,000 of these cars built so that will effect future values more than which gearbox the car has. So if the manual commands a premium or the F1 does it will not be significant. I don't think the range will vary that much at this point. Put your money into something else or another car if you really want an investment. The 512TR and Ford GT markets are very strong as well as the 993 Porsche. The Pantera's are making steady progress. As I stated before it doesn't make any difference to me if this car appreciates, although it would be nice, some of my other cars have more than made up for the 355. Again, at the time when I purchased them, I wasn't thinking about how much is this car going to be worth in the future, I bought them because I liked them. If the value drops, I still like them.
Point well taken, Jim. There's that too. *EVEN IF* manual cars by some twist of fate will drag a premium pricetag attached to them, we'll be talking about nickes and dimes. Hardly making this debate worthwile. One way or the other, we're still decades away from having to worry about 355s as an investment or vintage car. Cheers, Nuno.
Exactly, Nuno. I don't ever expect to see 288 GTO or F40 appreciation. Which is fine, because I still think that the 355 is a beautiful, nice driving car, great handling car, although a little underpowered. It is my second favorite Ferrari, right behind the 288GTO.
You might have a slight bias argument, but the poll is 5:1. There are not 5x more manual cars than f1 cars, so bias alone cannot explain the results. Also, maybe manual owners bought manuals cars because that's what they wanted, which would make the poll results perfectly valid. I know that's why I have one. I purposely put this poll in the 355 forum because I felt that would give the least biased results. You're getting answers from actual 355 owners and admirers, not those who wouldn't ever buy one or look down their noses at anything older than a 430.
"Admirers".......LMAOL...if your not an attorney you need to be one. You spew more BS than most I have met. I never came here to admire the car nor do anyone else I suspect, as the same I never go to the Lambo forum to admire them! I never even came here till after I bought the car......thank God. I rely on information from my well educated mechanic who has been working in them for years as opposed to the donkey OPINIONS received here. I only come here for free amusement. My amusement with you is gaining traction! Disclosure: Above listed is my opinion as with everything in this entire thread. The thread is full of people opinions and no real fact.
I dont see the point in the poll , anyone who has any experience here knows these polls never have more than 50 , maybe 75 votes , then when the poll shows results not in favor of what was expected , the response is to dismiss the poll because only 50 people responded . In my opinion , i dont think it matters , manual , f1 , who cares , buy what you want , factually , it cant be denied , the f1 could be a point of ( expensive ) failure , if you dont want to take that chance , eliminate the risk , buy a manual .I didnt vote but , for me , as long as have a left leg and a right hand to change gears, theres no resson to complicate the situation , the manual car will always change gesrs , will the f1 ? Based on ORDERS sales in 1999 the choice was F1 ..NOT STICK!..the only real desirable COLLECTABLE 355 manuals are 1999!!..Only like 5% sticks!..I wonder why??..inot even close!!..if sticks are so desirable then and now why was this ordering from 99 was so in favor of the F1??
More opinions which have absolutely nothing to do with value which was the other point of this thread/pole.
who says i think its worth millions..i dont..i also dont think a 95 is that much better..rather have a rarer 99 last of stick!..then a common 95 stick!
Heres the definitive last word , if you live in the country , and enjoy blasting up and down open roads then maybe you will pay more for an f1 , if you live in the city and creep along in traffic sometimes then maybe you will pay more for a manual , and it can be no other way , absolutely , kinda , maybe , maybe not .LOL I dont have a 355 so i shouldnt even be in this thread .Lol " serenity now "
Your just jealous your car has like 4.78945 less horsepower My 348 is catless and has a nouvalari exhaust , that adds like 90 hp , so therefore my car has somewhere around 400 , way more than your 355's . ( please , for those with no sense of humor , thats a joke ) " serenity now "
No......I was totally agreeing with you! Some clown on this board will now think they have a million dollar 99 because of those figures you posted! LOL
Jim I don't think anyone is saying that with more technology gives less problems. Just look at the 355 problems vs 348 problems vs 328 problems. I don't think anyone has ever said that. As stated by many it's a personal choice and those of us that love them have put our thoughts just like those of you that don't have put yours.
I spew BS? have you bothered to read your own posts? I get it, you're on the wrong side of the poll so you're doing whatever you can to discredit it. As far as data points go, it's likely the best you will get other than a dealer giving their opinion. Which they did. And it says the same thing as the poll.
Grant, there was an owner that stated that these transmissions didn't have any issues and wanted proof. It seems like you and Dave get it. Some of the others don't. Some of these owners are combative. I am just presenting what I have read over the years. I have been on this forum since 2005 or 2006. I remember when some owners were worried about replacing the pump at a cost of $10 K. Then they started upgrading to the 360 pump which significantly decreased costs. I have nothing against F1 cars and wouldn't mind having one myself but as some here come on and deny that this set up is going to be reliable as a manual box is just crazy. As you stated technology and models evolve over time. Denying any issues with these cars does not help the model's valuation. Most can be fixed, some are more expensive, some less. If you read my post to Nuno. These cars are not investments at the current time. Whether it be a 95 or a 99. Whether it is a stick or F1. Who knows what the future will bring? There are too many other cars out there now that are. Low mileage cars with all the major issues addressed will bring the most money, at least in the Ferrari world.
