It's the name my dealer quoted and on their info sheet. They asked me if I want the 1st one about 3 weeks ago during our Super Car Weekend. It will be out next year around May-ish, June. Before the P13.

I had already turned him down, since I hate the front end styling. The P1 style front end is really polarizing, some people love it and others hate it, there is no middle ground. The 12C's front end is soooooooooooooo much better, especially with the MSO bumper insert, they should have stayed with that style. Plus, I don;t have room for an extra car and nothing in my garage right now is disposable.

yeah, pretty much. but things happen. gotta deal with it, move on. It could've been A LOT worse. As in he could've went up in flames. crazy how so many peeps immediately and harshly jumped on the car itself to explain the situation.

Hey, take a few minutes and watch a couple of TimelapseHD videos on YouTube. They do AMAZING videos of Vancouver. Stunning skyline and morning fog. I'm reminding you that I NEED hi rez pics of your 918 in front of BC Place. And a video like those Timelapse would be spectacular.

Jesus, Drift's theory for the design flow is ruined... :(
Drift, never fill up your P1's rotors/radiators with fuel either, please...

The P1 looks like a frog, the 918 looks like a gay CGT and the LaFerrari....it simply looks like a giant, angry insect.

To all those people bashing McLaren for withholding ring times, look at Ferrari. The LaF must be pure and utter crap, since they refuse to lend the thing.

I hope someone here buys all 3, then proceeds to put 200k miles on each to see if they are built with any semblance of quality.

    Oh sorry guys, carry on!

+ 1000, together with mark anthar, wish I did it earlier, but somehow thought he owned a mclaren F1 ;) and qualified his views as an hypercar owner's

He might want a job at mclaren but I don't see why we all have to be his hostages.

    Stockholm syndrome anyone?

Heard a few things (not performance related). If any of it is true, it will be a very interesting car!

As for a P1 power upgrade, I know for a fact that it's a possibility and a lot of power is still left in the E-motor and ICE. Not gonna say more than that! :)

Alright, very interesting. Can't wait to know more about the car, but I doubt it will only have 650 PS as the name would suggest.

It tells you where the mentality is at, everywhere, 99% of 'anti-918' (even the special peep buying one spends an awful lot of energy marginalizing it) IMMEDIATELY cried fatal flaw. When I learned of who the owner was, I initially believed operator error of some kind (my own preconceived bias, a tiny one, but bias nonetheless), that a lot of petrol was spilled somehow (and first rumors suggested that). Wolves out for the kill: "OMG Terrible place for the exhaust, even fumes near it would cause that", "I'm certain it's the battery overheated, being new car and such, things were bound to go wrong". "I heard there were other fires of 918 too". "driver pulled up on wrong side, the refill cap is on the passenger side, driver was too lazy to reposition the car, so the fuel hose touched the super hot exhaust tips when owner had it resting on the rear deck trying to fill up"...that was according to Mac fanboy and mouthpiece Shmee150 (Tim) (he actually likes 918 but thinks P1 is so much more special, of course). That stupid idea spread quick because Shmee is apparently a celebrity of sort. Err, WTF? He's driven the car, how does he not know that Gas cap is on driver side and that the actual exhaust tips are well below the large steel and polymer openings on the deck? 'Lets wait for more information' never occurs to them. The idea of a faulty nozzle not shutting off, or user spilling, compounded by ill advised actions, causing a butt load of petrol overflow to get EVERYWHERE was simply too far fetched to those folks. And then there's the squeegee. To them, No, IT HAD TO BE the car 100%. Jeebers. rant over.

of all the descriptions you could've come up with, all the clever disses that could be spat, you chose "918 looks like a gay CGT" ??? gay as in homosexual, or gay as in 'weak, lame' ??? why 'gay'? just really curious.

    Funny but true

Good stuff. Not that it needs it but more power is never a bad thing.

The proximity of the exhausts to the fuel inlet is a design risk. I thought the only thing capable of destroying a 918 is a p1.

Seems like the squigy is the new nemesis. Everybody is gonna be hating on squigys now

    A comment from WorldCarFans site

"I live in Toronto(near where this happened) and I was told that the fire started due to overflowing gas touching a hot exhaust system.
I don't know if there was a pump failure, but I suspect human error to be the result of the overflowing gas."

Stop tiptoeing around the elephant in the room. What would a troll need a 918 or p1 for?

Porsche 918 defeated P1 in all category , 0-60mph, 0-100mph, 0-160mph, 0-186mph, 1/4 mile, Nurburgring lap time, Topgear h2h in spain, Evo h2h, even at Yas marina and Bahrain circuits , better brake, etc...
So it is very laughable some McLaren fan boys here act like all 918 achievements are for P1,
Just imagine if the situation was reversed and all that outstanding records was belonged to the P1 then only God knows the McLaren fan boys behavior!!

Given the knowledge Erik's acquired about the F1 over the years, the contacts he has to verify information and also McLaren's acknowledgement of his research, I'd say he's vastly more qualified to talk about things than many hypercar owners, specifically those that simply buy it cause it's the latest toy and stuff it in a garage without any care whatsoever for the car itself.

Certainly more than the fanboys for each of the marques in here.

This statement alone makes your post not even worth reading. You sound like a 14 year old. We're way past the point of using the term "gay" to describe something lesser.

    Sorry folks, carry on.

Hopefully I'll have a chance to drive all three very soon. From speaking with friends, P1 and LaF seem to accelerate much stronger than 918 over 60. No one really accelerates from 0. Magazine tests show this also.

Handling is pretty much irrelevant for these street cars. I can easily keep up with all three on the street in my GT3 RS. On the track you'd have to be pretty aggressive to see a big difference. And then the track-prepped 911s will kill all three anyway.

From what I heard, 918 feels like Nissan GT-R or Veyron. Seems to make sense with the added weight and 4WD. 918 pretty much copied a lot of what Nissan did and the Nissan NISMO (even without AWS) would be indistinguishable performance-wise to a 918 on the street. I have driven a NISMO GT-R and have many thousands of miles in the previous gen supercars.

From listening to friends, P1 and LaF apparently give a much more thrilling ride with the noises and lighter weight. I can't say more until I drive them.

IMHO, supercars are all about the thrill. F$@& ring times.
