    My car is at the dealers having a CEL sorted. While there I had this clever dude go along to the car and cut me a spare key, with the Ferrari logo, not that it matters.

    Anyway, he also programmed a spare, new remote fob that looks exactly the same as the OEM unit. He imports them from somewhere.
    Now I have a spare key and a fob. Pretty cool huh! Including his call out fee, and the nice blank, $500NZ.

    While he was there, 4, yes 4 techs approached him to ask what he was doing. He was told it's not possible.........................guess what guys. It is.

    You need to do this to use the fob though.

    Remote Synchronisation Instructions:
    Put key in Ignition and turn ignition on and then off. Remove key, shut all doors and hold remote up to the glass window (or sit inside the car for
    faster result) and press the remote button 8 - 10 times until car responds to remote. Remote is now sychronised with the vehicle.

    Who cares, I have a spare fob for very little cost. And as it happens it will be Ferrari red by Sunday.

    Graham- He cloned your fob. I would recommend swapping the fobs about every other day you drive her so they do not get out of synch.

    Will that work for a 430??? Did you put the new key in the ignition and turn on and off?? Or the Old Key??......Which one did you hold to the window...new or old?

    This is a spare fob for just in case situations.

    Either key can be used because that's just a copy. The bloody car should have came with two keys, and a red fob, but that's another story.

    It just feels good knowing that I have a spare now, and not needing another mortgage to do it.

    Mark, if I need to use the new fob that's what I have to do, with the new fob.

    Taz, is that because the codes constantly change? I was planning on leaving it in a draw to be honest!

    Cloned fobs use a rolling code just like garage door openers so if you don't use it for a while it gets out of sync and I think you have to keep pressing the button until it syncs up. Not too sure how many times but maybe the same number of times you used the other fob. I would use the cloned fob and keep the original in a drawer as it should not lose sync (I think).

    I left my cloned fob in a drawer for a few months when I went to use it just to make sure it still worked - I clicked it almost 150 times before it finally did. So I said I'll use it every few weeks - well its been 3 months - I bet it takes over 200 clicks!

    200 clicks is still better than being stranded somewhere!
    Which is point of getting it, no matter how awkward it might be.

    Alan- They both lose synch if not used. The internals are identical because the EEPROM is just copied so using one puts the other one out of synch by that much.

    Yup, you have a back-up and if you take good care of the one you are using, you may never need it. There are 67,600 possible rolling codes, so the fobs can get pretty far out of synch.

    Does that just apply to cloned fobs or factory ones as well? I have never used my red one and my second black one has not been used for a while.

    No, normal/factory fobs don't go out of sync because effectively you have fobs A, B & C. When you clone a fob you end up with two fob A's, so as one A advances the code, the other A is left behind and therefore needs a few presses to sync again

    Yeah I have also tasted some of the Taz Koolaid...and it is good stuff! I am thinking back and don't recall seeing him as much in this particular forum when I was getting my feet wet but the last 10 months or so he is definitely represented. Sort of begs the question...

    Terry are you thinking about going mid-engine on us?

    Kevin- No, I am a V12 kind of guy. Lots of the systems are the same, though, and you V8 guys out-number us about 5:1, so more questions. Always learning something new about Ferraris.

    Kevin- Remember, I have owned V6, V8, and V12 Ferraris. Missed out on the I4s and I6s because I am not rich. My favorite Ferrari is the 250 LM and my favorite street Ferrari is the F50, both mid-engined. In my dreams.
