I hope that Hamilton and Rosberg go there with equal points so it would be just "who is in front gets WDC"...
I can get behind that if you can assure me that it will play out that way. Short of that I want it over by then.
I doubt that one of them gets an advance of 50 points over the other by then unless one DNF several times now...
They don't have to have it settled between themselves just have it out of reach of the rest of the field. In fact the closer thay are to each other the less the chance that the dreaded DP will stink up the sport.
It only takes two DNF's to get 50 points behind and with Mercedes' reliability track record this year, that's not beyond the realms of possibility!
Agreed. I guess I'm easy any which way as long as the double points BS doesn't change the outcome. If the "new points" give the same result as the "old points", it's all good. OTOH, if the outcome is changed as a result of this nonsense, there will be the biggest asterisk ever. Lets hope it doesn't work out that way..... Cheers, Ian
None Im aware of and yet the teams and Bernie are continuing with this plan. I guess not even a Typhoon can change it!
I hear you Phill, but IMO Hamilton and Nico knew he had the edge in speed from day one over Nico, so he knows/believes he should have been leading the WDC at that point, had it not been for his racing gods of luck disappearing, and his DNF's. IMO no matter what Hamilton does is good enough for some folk, for example if he pushes his car too hard it's his fault, if he doesn't and Nico is on his gearbox, he should let him pass...!! Well in my book let them race and earn that place, I'am not a fan of team orders full stop, for this reason. And on this occasion I felt there was no real reason for the switch, unless someone at Merc HQ had decided Nico is now number 1 driver. Flip side, you could then argue Nico went on a revenge mission of his own back, when he clipped Ham's rear tyre, a absolute no no to take your team mate out, and as that turned out, Nico had luck in the race, but as a move from a team perspective, not good at all IMO. Overall I do get your point, and yes it just confirms to me why I do not like team orders let the buggers at it, how boring would this title race have been, with team orders ...yuck. Heehee Yup, may the best man win this race on the day. Aha now back to Vettel Ferrari, what was the question...
Given Vettel's contract set him free if he wasn't among the first 3 on the 30th September, how many think he's been sandbagging all along?
Don't think he would want to embarrass himself that much Plus if he could beat his team mate he still would be third and still have the ability to get out of his contract - IMHO
The driver winning on the penultimate race could be considered the real winner, or just work it out with normal point awarded on the last race.
I keep seeing the possibility of one driver or the other being robbed of their rightful WDC through no fault of their own this season (mechanical failure or a crash), due to the double points and it tainting F1 forever! I seriously hope that it doesn't happen but it is a possibility! Double points? - One of the dumbest ideas ever!
Show me a moral victor and I'll show you a loser. It's what's in the record books that is remembered.
