I haven't used an original 4-pt Ferrari harness with a HANS device but as I seen its shoulder belts are anchored too wide apart. For a HANS device to work properly, shoulder belts must seat on them perfectly and the distance between anchoring points should at a specific value (usually much lower than the distance at the shoulders) . Please read pages 12-14 Installation- and Operating Instructions

To my knowledge they are all made under license, I personally use Stand21, although I have seen many drivers use Schroth. Best, w
I will try the car very soon on the same race track where I was used to go very often with my Gt3. Just to give you some numbers and simply looking at the fastest Speciale's acceleration and assuming similar performances during turns and braking between the two cars..I should be able to gain about 3,5 sec. from my best Gt3 lap time. so just to let you know : 1':21",5 Gt3 my best on that race track (but some friends were able to be 1 sec faster with Rs) 1':18" Speciale (my estimated lap time) 1':12"/1':13" average time for Gt3 Cup lap times (just to compare some numbers) We will see and hope to meet you soon of course..
The oem 4-pt works fine w a HANS device. It feeds through the narrower opening just under the headrest which is the perfect width that matches the shoulder points of the HANS device. There's still a bit of submarining w the oem 4-pt but it's much better than the conventional seatbelt. I use a carbon pro HANS device by HANS http://www.saferacer.com/hans-device-hans-professional-device I went w conventional anchors because the quick release tethers can easily catch under the seatbelts which would release the anchors which kinda defeats the whole pt lol. I know 4pts is oem and schroth has a 4pt ASM but do a little research. 4pts are not allowed by many many sanctioning bodies for a reason. The dynamics of a 3pt are very different from 4+ points. Consider using 6pt parachute style to improve safety with minimal extra installation efforts.
Well, if we want to be really technical here, a 4-pt is technically not suitable for full-fledged tracking/racing purposes as billybob has already pointed out. Spirited Ferrari Racing Day driving events no problemo. As I briefly touched on, w the 4-pt there will still be some submarining which technically poses significant risk in event of a crash. body lunges downward, the buckle clip is in a placement directly above vital organs etc etc. So, if you want to be technical and 100% homolgamated then no, a 4-pt and HANS used either together or mutually exclusive of each other are not suitable.
The Belts have to be specific for a Hans Device as MuratC stated.. Are oem harnesses able to be switched easily? If so then we can get Hans approved belts and Hans devices. Which I am a dealer for both =)
So, we have a new question, exactly as VividRacing posed Is it possible to replace the factory installed 4pt harness with an FIA certified harness compatible with a Hans device, using the existing attachment points for shoulder belts? AFAIK, you cant replace the oem 4pt harness with a HANS compatible FIA certified harness. First there are no real anchoring points for none of the belts. You just have make them by drilling the body panels and reinforcing them. Second, you should probably get a real racing seat with holes for anti-submarining belts. Original 4pt harness anchoring points are too wide apart for HANS use. So you cant use these for a new HANS compatible belt. Maybe that's why they are not allowed in the US

I think once you go down this road you find you will need a roll bar at least, if not a 1/2 cage or even a full cage...
I would disagree - a street car has side impact beams in the doors, plus the airbag system to protect the driver. The safety concept in a race car that is based on a cage is quite different. All I want is to wear a Hans device when I have a helmet on with a harness without inertia reels And I want a harness for the track - but am not keen on a basal skull fracture. And helmets are required on most tracks. It seems to me that Ferrari's factory 4pt harness is a poorly engineered gimmick - a bit disappointing to be honest. I have asked if it is possible to have Challenge harness attachment points installed in a Speciale through extra campionario. Will report back. Best, W
Yes its very different. Street cars make many compromises because they are street cars. HANS keeps your head locked in place- if you roll your street car the roof can deform and now your head is exposed. I think theres a good reason why Ferrari in the USA doesn't offer this stuff....
