With my new purchase of a 430, what diagnostic tool/reader do you recommend that I have at home so when, the check engine light comes on I can read the fault codes. I live 6 hours away from the closest tech, so it will be nice to be able to read the codes to see what is going on. Thanks.

I use ELM bluetooth adapter and an app for my android called Torque Pro.

You can clear codes and read real time data with Torque Pro and the ELM bluetooth adapter but the current app version can only read 1 ECU.....

SD3, Skill tester or Texa - anything else and you're not getting even half the picture.

Great suggestion but how many Ferrari owners can afford an SD3?

Texa and Auto Enginuity are in the $4-5.5K range, way more affordable than an ST05, SD3, or Leonardo.

I've not used the Auto Enginuity tool so couldn't say if it's worth it or not. However, once you start using a workshop grade tool you'll never go back. The amount of data in the car is astonishing and can provide good clues for a diagnosis. The data presented by generic OBD readers is very limited.

BTW: To the guys using Torque Pro, have they upgraded the software so both engine ECUs can be read? Otherwise you're only getting half of what is a small picture in the first place.

Terry do you have positive feedback on either Texa or Auto-enginuity? I've tested the Texa in shop, it was limited but better than generic. They've offered to work with me on development for Aston and Lambo if I buy one to with my Leo, Maserati coverage was not too good on the test mule I had.

I have not used my Torque Pro in a while. I will check it soon and see.

I will also contact the creator and will request he updates it to make it fully compatible for our F cars.

thanks to everyone for the input. My next question is, I have zero mechanical experience or skill for that matter, would I need a workshop grade device, would that help me reset codes or what not? Like I said before I am 6 hours away from the nearest tech, so being able to do something would be nice, but I also understand I sure don't want to make things worse, so if I could use a phone app, and get the info great, but if spending $5k to get something to really help me well that would be ok as well. I don't think I am going to spend the $25k though. Thanks again.

Any good OBDII reader mentioned here will allow you to read the codes and post for help -- $25 max.

Red- For most of us, the pro level tools would be like a dog watching TV. An OBDII tool is what you likely need. The pro tools assume you are already an expert.

There's no secret, I would imagine that someone contemplating such a purchase would have many varied questions. Email would make talking though the topics easier than posting up on the forum.

Happy to answer any question you have.

The Texa is supplied as hardware and software. On the hardware front the cheapest way in is to buy the Texa Nano interface which will run you about £1,350 + Tax. I have their TXC interface which is better and costs around £3,000 + Tax. Both these options come with the basic software called IDC4 Light. I have their IDC Plus software but I'm not sure how much extra that costs.

However, you will need to pay for the supercar extension which runs at £1,000 + Tax.

In short, min spend £2,350 + Tax. You will also need a laptop to run the software on unless you buy one of their tablets (I bought a cheap Dell to use specifically).

There are Texa dealers throughout the world but I got mine from this company: Car Diagnostic - Auto Diagnostics | Autocraft Equipment

Oh yes. The amount of data and operations the Texa provides is far, far superior. I would guess you're only getting less than 10% of the available info through an OBD reader on a car like the F430.

Try Steve Holdsworth @ Joe Macari. I won't get my OEM parts from anyone else.

    You are very welcome.
