Copper Brown Metallic 1975 930 Turbo, 930.570.0163 (non-optioned A/C and non-optioned sunroof) previously for sale at Cars and Classic UK for $160K now for sale at Symbolic Motor Car Co. This car looks to be remarkably original with the only exceptions being the added electric flag mirrors (but no electric control on door top), 1980+ Euro side markers, and absence of Koln radio. It has a Japanese speedometer but there is no mention if this is original to the car (The 1975 Turbo was not delivered to Japan). It has “DGM” on the trunk plate and it now appears that all 1975 model year Turbos included this designation. Perhaps the additional ’76 Turbos built with 930/50 engines used for the 400 number used to qualify the 934 for Group 4 in FIA Nr. 645 also had this designation on the plates? All photos courtesy of Symbolic Motor Car Company.

    Thank you!

Hmmm. I took the previous owner at his word in regards to the ID tag. I should amend my ad to "thats what I was told".

    Cool car.
Interesting it is not a twin plugged engine for such a high state of tune?

The COA states that it was also interior to sample and with turbo graphics – very cool.

Interesting extra stamps on the trunk plate (1470 kg and 41 608). Perhaps post-factory import stamps from Germany to France? Interesting that the added 1470 was even double stamped on the plate.

Thinking about it, I remember seeing an ice green car for sale a while back. It was included in this thread, for sale in France. There was a magazine article on it, it also had unusual seats. Could this be the same car now undergoing restoration?

Yes, six, and there is already an image posted somewhere which notes this.

There is quite a lot on Google regarding the Urban Outlaw and the 3.0 Turbos! It appears that the emphasis is on quantity rather than quality, and modification/customization is evident.

    Still, the enthusiasm is undeniable.

He has stated in the past he tries to keep his 930s pretty stock, except for swapping wheels, adjusting ride height, and adding Urban Outlaw decals. Some of them were modified by previous owners, of course, and I don't think he attempts to undo those.

Kudos to Magnus for completing his complete set of the three years of 3.0-liter 930s.

Correct! Magnus is one of the nicest guys in the classic Porsche world and he has a good eye for future trends. The '75 Turbo is a rare and special car.

Hi Erik – welcome to FerrariChat.

In case you missed it in the 141 pages, thanks again for the Porsche Geburtsurkunde for my 1975 930 Turbo. Amazing that Pon’s had all the information for my ’75 Turbo including the hidden production number!

Erik - I noticed that you also purchased a '75 Turbo (Pelican WTB post w/ image of my '75 Turbo manual I bought from Giuliakeka). Photos and details of your '75 Turbo please :)

And the 1976 cars are not exactly common! There just seems like there are not enough to go around!

Spoken like a true '75 Turbo owner!

If you have a 3.0 930, congratulations, you have great taste.

As regards future trends: I remember when I bought my first 3.0 930 well over a decade ago, most car-guys I encountered had trouble distinguishing it from any other 930 variant! I always thought that the 3.0 930s were special, even back then, and I sought out nice examples, going on to own 1975, 1976 and 1977 build cars. I think this thread I started 3 years ago has had a little influence on current trends! Suddenly these cars are being universally accepted as being special as people are seeking them out. Its good to see them get their day in the sun, because they deserve it.

As regards which year 3.0 is the best or most desirable: I say there is something for everyone. IMO, an exaggerated fuss is made over the 1975 cars relative to the 1976 and 1977 cars. IMO again, all that matters is owning a 3.0 930 with no inter-cooler and 4-speed gearbox. The fact remains that the cars got better as production went along, as Porsche Ag improved them in small but crucial ways with each model year. In that regard, the best driving and best built 3.0 930 is the 1977 car. This is very typical of automotive production, where the cars get better with each successive production year as a function of development improvements. This was certainly borne out in my own experience of my 1975, 1976 and 1977 build cars. The 1977 car just felt the best to drive and was far & away the most reliable. I think owners of 1977 and 1976 cars should find them just as special and collectible as 1975 cars. I would go as far as to say that I personally value the 1975, 1976 & 1977 cars as pretty much the same, with history & current condition being the all-deciding factor. In reality, they are all rare & special, not just the 1975s.

Thanks for welcoming me and thanks Joe for starting this fantastic thread. When I first started reading one late afternoon I was finished at 0100 at night. All early Turbos are special but I really wanted a '75 because they're the rarest. Just like I like for example the 1964 Porsche 911 - it's the simple fact that there's only a few of them left. It was the fun of the chase and now that I own it it's the special details that makes them different from later models. As far as driving is concerned I guess you couldn't find any difference (or is there?) and they're all very rare. The '77 probably is the better car but I'm fine for now.

@Rich: you're welcome. Nice manual! My car is a stranded project but complete and free of rust. We picked it up today, I will send more pics later, it's black/black with Recaro Sports seats and matching numbers engine and gearbox.

Congrats Erik. If you are like me, you’ll enjoy discovering hidden details of your car. The exhaust on my ’75 Turbo was replaced in the mid-1980’s but was stored away in a box and came with my car (w/ original ’75 3LDZ turbo, etc.). The heat exchangers are dated 2/75 (please excuse the dirt and oil) and being a 930 detail geek, it was nice matching this date to the Feb ‘75 instruments in my car (exception being the Oct ’74 speedometer). The speedometer date is interesting as it matches the date on my original Bischoff muffler (also in a box when it was removed from my car) - dated Oct ’74.
