    Why can't they just call it the Azerbaijan GP?

    Baku is hardly in Europe.

    Wow, I missed that one. Russia, Europe? I think to be Europe, you need to be part of the EU, or at least west of Greece.

    So, Switzerland and Norway aren't in Europe? The Vatican? Jersey?

    What about Poland, Bulgaria and Romania then?

    for marketing purposes Azerbaijan is more PC, aligning with Europe... while politically it has associations with NATO and with the European council... geographically, in a coin toss, the coin would land on its' edge... allowing for the European GP designation

    Going by the biggest singing competition, the Chanson Eurovision where Russia is indeed treated like a Euro nation. Caused a big stir this year with the Russian girls singing lyrics like "the world should show some love" right after the Russians marched into the Ukraine.
