No hot lap mode;
And deff 918 was with almost depleate battery-it doesnt switch off front motor at such low speed;
And at the end even SS was honest, that this counts only on this day...

 

Edited and corrected: The 918 tested in Autocar's comparison video was indeed in Race Mode, not Hot Lap mode.

 

918 wins out of the hole thanks to its 4wd traction and an abundance of torque. Think this through now - how many times do you launch from rest on a racetrack...?

Bill_S is right - P1 has the power and weight advantage where it really matters, and also has the downforce advantage for those capable of exploiting its limits. I'd be careful waging your bets so quickly.

918 is in race mode, not HL.
918 switchs off front motor at 270kmh, not 240kmh...
918 has two modes for the tyre presure-street and race. This car was in street.
Even P1 had problems with front left tyre... Very proffesional

I stand corrected. Went back to my 918 technical briefing and realized when the 918 is in Hot Lap mode, it's highlighted in a bright red letter in the center gauge!

I think that is in reference/comparison to the 918 which first brakes the e-motors and then switches to (or adds) the conventional brakes.

Sounds like the P1 and LaF have a similar setup and the 918 is quite different.

 

I have calculated the LaFerraris onboard times which it achieved during a recent Vmax event at the same drag strip as these cars. It is not 100% correct but still very accurate. Bear in mind that it didn't use launch control. And I also measured the 100 to 200 mph sprint in a opposite direction to the sprint to 150 so wind may play a part. Anyway, here's the numbers.

There were two P1s at Sonoma yesterday. The black customer car was tracked by the owner, the other belongs to T price and was there for display. We were on track together (458 challenge). It's quick in a straight line, we were quicker overall, but it wasn't a race (of course) just a track day. The interior felt small (I'm only 5'8) but it's a very comfortable car. I apologize for the crappy cell phone pictures.

The article makes it sound like the time gap between 918 and P1 in 0-200mph is close to 10sec ("a little over 20s in the P1 and a little under 30s in 918). While3/10ths of a second is "a little under", 3.3 seconds is more than "a little over". The comment about the P1 being "out of sight" was a bit hyperbolic also as the P1 was still in plain view at the end of "the race".

P1 definitely quicker in the upper end of the acceleration race which is about what was to be expected. 918 nowhere near the "slouch" in comparison. I'd be happy with either. Maritime Blue 918 and Mclaren/Papaya Orange for P1 if anyone is doing early Christams shopping please. And a full Giallo Modena/Cuio LaF (silver wheels) too while you're at it. Thankyou.

Everyone keeps talking about >150 MPH performance?!?!? All 3 of these cars are street cars NOT track/race cars - that is why Ferrari is readying the LFXX. Given these are all street cars, what percentage of miles are driven under 150MPH vs over 150 MPH by all owners? I would hypothesize orders of magnitude more miles are driven (by owners) under 150 MPH than over 150MPH. I think the Porsche is the real winner here in "useable performance" for owners.

I am speaking from experience as one of my cars has a stated top speed of 217 MPH and I can count in one hand the times I have had that car over 150 MPH! Pretty much only on track and that too on the front and back straights at COTA! (which is my favorite track)

So I find people repeating the phrase "P1 is faster where it counts" to be not valid!

And unlike many here actually like all 3 of these cars!

 

Think this through.

918 gearing, 4WD, torque, brakes will give it advantage on 90% of the tracks in world.

mechanical grip is hell of thing just look up the nissan GTR.

 

There are several racing events here in NV that are on closed public roads where you could hit 200+ for 90 miles; and I plan to do that. Now what percentage of miles is that overall, not many...

 

200+ for 90 miles - hey, I want to do that! ;-)
