    Great posts. I too am a mechanical engineer and love the Ferrari V12 engine.

    You are the man pulling one out an rebuilding it.

    I have 458 now and in the hunt for a 612 or 599 to follow your lead.

    Well boys (and girls). It was an interesting day! After reworking the water pump that arrived (had to switch impellers as it was apparently for a different V12 model), we got it all pulled together.

    Check out the video! You can't buy entertainment like that!

    Good news, it started and ran well.

    Bad news, it later caught (slightly) on fire as one of the O2 sensor heaters has a dead short. This caused the sensor to glow red hot and ultimately the insulation near it caught fire! We put it out but I was crapping my pants. I just ordered the O2 sensor but hope I don't have an ECU issue at this point (doubtful).

    Enjoy the video! It's been a rough 3 months pulling this together. I have a long way to go but the journey has been fun!

    Smoke AND mirrors!

    What a crazy day! This O2 sensor issue almost cost me the car. I have to dig in carefully and ensure it is just the element and not the ECU.

    I need a vacation from all this! Fortunately I will get one in two weeks. And my wife needs a vacation from this more than anyone!

    Many congratulations. I'm sure the O2 sensor issue is just a minor glitch. Thank goodness it didn't result in disaster!!

    Unbelievable how these V12s are complicated.

    To anyone with a 612 here : ok for the smoke, but was the sound "correct" ? It seemed too rumbling to me.

    I still have the rear boxes off the exhaust. Hopefully that accounts for any of the sound concerns.

    Perfect! V12 rumbles.... And valves tick, cams roll, you can hear them in the video as well.... Are you still getting white smoke?

    White smoke gone. It was just all the 5w40 lubing up the pistons on assembly, etc.

    I've got to go through the O2 harness and ECU pin-outs and confirm I don't have a O2 heater short in anything other than the sensor itself. That part was scary!

    BTW, beware of the fiberglass heat shields that are under the car near the exhaust. I believe it is one of these these got too hot and started burning. I can see that the units needs some repair or reinforcement. The spacing of the exhaust in proximity to these shields is real close. Makes me a little nervous. I will research reinforcing them/ adding more glass.

    BTW, keep the 612 start-up (like most modern Ferraris) procedure in mind after battery disconnect.
