Hey guys, I just got my car back from the shop. I had my heat exchanger replaced (because it failed on me) and my steering rack rebuilt because it was leaking. $8100 yippy. I was told a lot of times when the heat exchanger fails it takes the tranny with it. While Ferrari said my transmission looked alright. Well I been keeping my eyes on the gauges lately and I noticed that sometimes when I first start it up & Downshift fast my F1 Failure light flickers. I looked at the manual and says that means low pressure? Whats low pressure mean? like low on fluid? Is this common in these 360s? Anyone else experience this when they downshift? I have a 2001 360 F1 spider by the way.

The F1 system pump motors get weak over time and require replacement. This F1 fluid does not mix with the transmission lubricant so the heat exchanger failure would not have any impact on the F1 system itself.

There is a bleed block (#18) on the tranny and it can leak (or the bleeder screw) causing loss of fluid and pressure. Get that checked out first. I believe Hill Engineering make a better one.

I'll have to check the bleeder screw because i emailed Ferrari see how i just had it in the shop and they said the F1 pump was operating 47-60 bar pressure which was listed operating pressure. So the pump is out of the question so any other ideas?

Air in the system, possibly. Have your techs check it with an SD2 to see if there is a problem and possibly change and bleed the F1 system fluid. Ferrari's last recommendation for F1 fluid change was 3 years. Check the bleed block and bleed valve at the same time.

mine has been flickering on downshifts since the day I bought the car. Only if I have not shifted in the past 10 or so minutes, around town never but if I go on the freeway it always will flicker when downshifting at the offramps.

No leaks that can be found or seen, never lost fluid in the reservoir. Had the issue tested and confirmed by both a dealer and a independent and both could not find any issues with SD2's, it just happens. Been that way 15,000 miles now and works fine.

I would like it fixed but it appears to not be broken (at least for my car).

A failing pump motor will still generate the proper pressure and pass the test. The old pump just creates the pressure slower than a newer pump. Therefore, if you shift quickly, the pressure is bled down and the pump takes too long to build up the proper pressure. So the F1 light will flash indicating insufficient pressure until the pump builds it back up....

    Just my $.02....

It is a 13 year old car. I did a test for leaks and seems like everything is holding up. What i did was turn the ignition on but didnt turn the car on, up shift a few times then i heard the F1 pump turn on, looked at my watch and waited for it to turn back on. 7 mins later it turned back on. So i would think if it is leaking it would of been turning on like every 30 seconds or minute cuz the line would lose pressure. Tomorrow ill be at Ferrari they are gonna fix my horn and ill have em visually check it for leaks. And if they cant find anything guess it will just flicker.
