Option Nr. 409: LH and RH Roadster seats: For improved lateral support when speeding through curves, and for non-fatiguing long-distance driving, due to the orthopedic seat shape.

For the 3-liter Turbos, the Recaro sport seats changed very little from year-to-year with the only exception being the round seat-back tilt knobs on the 1975 seats depicted in the options and accessories (Zubehör) brochure photo below.

True, you can get square plates.
But I think a common attitude in Europe is this:

A US 3.0 930 is a bastardized 3.0 930 that needs to be corrected, and the originality aspect does not extend to the preservation of US equipment and trim.

US smog equipment is heavy and destructive to the engine.
US bumperettes are ungainly looking and insanely heavy.

Yet, the Turbo Carrera badging and double front indicator lenses are retained in many cases.
I suspect this is because it does not conflict with the design, purpose, and health of the car.
And perhaps to signal the origins of the car

Does anyone know of a Sonderwunsch Turbo or other Sonderwunsch Porsche 911 before the Von Karajan (VIN 930 570 0206)? I read that Porsche only started the Sonderwunsch program after this car when they realized that a special wish vehicle could bring some extra money for the company.

So here is one for our resident experts: we have seen other cars without driving lamps, was this really an option when the cars were built in 1975 - 1977, or is this a contemporary modification by someone who simply didn't like the look of them?

The latter seems to have some logic, because most would agree that those driving lamps are perhaps one of the most ungainly features of the 3.0 930.

Anyone know if 'driving lamp delete' was an original in-period option and has supporting material to show same?

They were not 'driving lamps' they were fog lamps.

They were optional, but they had to be ordered without them.

I thought driving lamps and fog lamps were essentially the same thing...

Any material from the period to support the claim that the cars could be ordered without them?

I have a metal air box cover from my 77 930 as pictured above and a smog pump available if anyone needs one.

I have located engine 6750257. It's not cheap but it would be nice to reunite with the matching numbers car. Should be car with VIN higher than 9305700235 - and if the linearity continues in the same sequence as my car it could be car 9305700236. This car is unaccounted for at Ryan's 930 registry but probably there's no linearity (don't even know if this is a word) at all. It's a 930/50 engine.

    Regards

    Erik

PS: Thanks for the '75-'76 comparison Wim!

Rectangular Fog lamps (Rechteckige Nebelscheinwerfer) were standard for 3-liter Turbos (all markets with the possible exception of Japan) as listed in brochures, preislistes, etc. Like many other standard features, they could probably be deleted from factory fitment.

Very cool comparison. What's the difference between the first and second wastegate (are they both '76's?)

Thank you Rich for your specificity, as always.

I note your cautious use of the word "probably", and I'm with you on this one, although I know all things are possible, I'll need to see a period build-sheet/invoice/window-sticker specifically stating 'Fog lamps delete' or words to that effect, to be convinced that the cars I have come across without them have not been modified post-production.

    Agree Joe -

Fritz does have a ’78 930 with that was ordered without fog lamps but I’ve yet to see 3-liter Turbo with fog lamp delete documentation.

Okay, I'm convinced it happened then! That's close enough to the 3.0 era, and here we have proof the factory allowed that sort of individual specification.

    Thank you.

I'm not aware of the exact specs, but the car does not look lowered to me, and I think those might be 15s with tall-profile tires.

Talking of correct specs (build -sheet), please is it possible to find out, with what options (for example seats) 1976 turbo carrera (US spec) #338 came with from factory?

Have been finding correct bits for a number of years now, tail, front fog lights, bits to remove intercooler. It is a long search.

I know it is possible to get a COA from Porsche, but I understand they only print items on the COA, if you name options correctly for them. But if your car has wrong seats, then Porsche would not list them in COA. This is what I have read from internet forums.
