    Malc,

It seems Ferrari when introducing the F1 system thought that F355 F1 would be redundant. Too many Fs :) Even in the back of our cars, manuals are engraved F355 and automatics 355 F1, followed by the relevant variation (Berlinetta, GTS, Spider).

    Kind regards,

    Nuno.

Fixed. Please don't call the F1 cars "automatics". They are not automatics.
Genuine automatics are a completely different thing.
The F1 box in the 355F1 is a clutchless manual transmission, also known as "electro hydraulic manual transmission"

And, if you want to be really anal it's "F355" for the manual cars, and "355F1" for the, errrr, F1 transmission cars.

    :)

Duly noted, thanks Steve. Wrote "automatic" for a clearer opposition to the gated F355, but you're right.

    Kind regards,

    Nuno.

It may not have a clutch pedal but it has a clutch!

You are, of course, completely correct.

For whatever reason though, the definitions I gave seem to be the accepted ones by the people who designed the system.

Maybe they should have called it "clutch-pedal-less manual transmission"
The main thing is that they are not "automatics". :)

The sentence that stands out to me in that article is:

"Downshifting is improved at any speed -- you barely feel the gears change..."

Surely that would only be possible if the system rev-matc... Oh hang on.

    :)

Called them three fifty five for 16 years as a 355 fanatic... till I bought one; now I call it the F 3 five five because I believe their is not three hundred and fifty five of anything. But. .. I still call a 360 a three sixty...430...but I call a 458 a four five eight. Odd.

    I have no rationale.

The car itself is not a 355 but an F355 you can see it in the plaques applied all over the car.

    The real question is it " a f355 " or "an f355 " . or "a f-3-5-5- " or " an f-3-5-5 " or a f3-55 or an f3-55 , or ....................
