I have used my FF for 15,000 miles its great so good I have ordered a new FF for January collection from the factory. I bought it at 10,000mls. My question is not having driven a 458 is it a good balance to the FF ( summer, play thing, track day)?????
The 458 is different. It is more nimble, just a tad quicker at low to medium speeds. It is not nearly as refined and elegant as the FF, being more sporty. And the 458 does not have the V12 sound but has its own characteristic scream. I have both and would not want to part with either of them, but I get much more use out of the FF.
Great thread, I just was gong to post the same question. Today I was driven in a stunning Fchatter's 458 coupe today and I really think that if you have an FF you are going to struggle with V8/V12. I loved the 458's V8 rumble, growl, and then shreak.. but nothing sounds like that V12 Ferrari scream. When I add, I am going to look at the 458 spider or F12. Will be a very difficult decision to make..
I have an FF and a California. The 458 is of course faster and more nimble than the Cali but not THAT much more. I drove my Cali to the dealer some time ago to drive a 458 and the difference was not overwhelming. Given that, when I switch from my FF to my Cali it takes quite a few miles before I get the Ferrari excitement again. And when I switch back to the FF I cr.p my pants with the difference. So, the two would actually make a great combo, especially if the 458 was a spider!
Thanks Rick, definitely agree. I am so pumped to start shopping again . Lets see where this all lands, I want to try and keep this in ($300k) all in range.
Similar situation and different results for me. I do long distance and high speed alot. Had 458 spider before and sold it to get 2nd FF. Sure it will be more interesting to have F12 and 458 Spider than F12 and FF but given what I do most with my cars, v8 was not enough. But between v12 and 458, no brainer. I would choose aventador or 640 over 458 anyday and F12 over anything but zonda. 640 has so much character than 458 so you should look at it. Aventador for pure theater. Then, F12.....you have to have one to know what I mean.... Before F12, I thought I would never own v12 FR ferrari than Lambo except FF for GT and I was wrong. Had aventador for more than a year and it was good fun. F12, it is like 458 and aventador and FF put together. It is better than anything else out there. But, if money is the factor, I would choose 640 over current mid engine line up. To sum it up, F12 and forget everything else. Aventador only if you are interested. 640 hell yeah. 458....well if you have to have one.
Wow big statements for the F12. Will definitely look at it come the time. Cheers Huge Well there are only 2 in Canada on the used market and I think I will be very high 300s or 400 to get in. Definitely going to check it out next winter.
Currently the used one in Vancouver is $499,999. The car itself cost somewhere around 440,000 new but due to the demand it is now half a million. It's very difficult to get F12s since the waiting time is long and if u are a new ferrari customer, it is nearly impossible to get a 2015 F12
I went from a 2010 California to a 2012 458 spider and found them to be completely different cars the 458 was way more responsive than the California and I wouldn't go back. I have a 458 Speciale Aperta coming mid next year and that's a level again up on the 458 spider. I think the V12's and the California are a world apart - so not surprised it takes you a while to get the excitement back. I don't think you'll have the same impression if you have the FF and a 458 spider. My dream combo would be the F12 and Speciale Aperta.
That pretty much sums it up for me. And if you need or want four seats, the FF is very close. So by having both you can have a pretty much seamless Ferrari driving experience depending on how much capacity you need for that day's particular drive. That being said, if you track a lot, a 458S has its own very special appeal, but if you have an F12 its pretty much icing on the cake.
patekswiss yes it is seamless Ferrari life. Maybe too much lol Had aventador and FF at one point and it was more of night and day kinda thing. Now with f12 and ff it is more like omg which one should I pick it is so close. Funny thing is no other cars come close to FF in terms of excitement with luxury. this makes it so difficult to part with FF at all. There is no substitute except next FF. F12 just what every sports car should be and beyond. So maybe ff and f12 together has some redundancy in a good way and I am enjoying the moment Have gt3 coming for track drive. Will be much cheaper than 458s Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
An interesting thread could be: WHAT THREE CARS WOULD YOU PICK TO OWN FOR LESS THAN 1 MILLION DOLLARS TOTAL, ALL IN? 1. Daily driver, kids to school, long distance trips etc. 2. Sports/GT machine, weekend plaything, special occasion 3. Track car, edgy, sticky wicket (2 and 3 are not the same)
1- panamera GTS 2- Ferrari FF or F12 depending on weather location and family size 3- 458 speciale, GT3 RS, GT3, and scuderia in that order IMHO
Why do u think the GT3 is so massively better than the Speciale on the track ? U got F12 and FF so money not an issue and I guess you didnt order the Gt3 because of the price over the speciale, am I right ? So it must be something else. I thought that also AUTOCAR proclaimed the Speciale Driver's Car of the year over the Atom and the GT3 in 3rd position.
1. I use the FF as DD though my kids are grown and gone off. For long trips we put the rear seats down and throw our gear in. 2. Am so much in love with the V12 and its sound that I am thinking F12 again. 3. Agree but I might put the Scud in third place because of its raw analog edginess.
We have a 2013 FF. We had a 12 458, then an F12, and now a Speciale to offset the FF. We have put plenty of miles on them in a variety of conditions (eg. first 600 miles in the Speciale were a long single weekend in heavy rain). I will hold off commenting on a "track car", since while all these cars are amazing on a track, none are close to being real "track or race cars". The FF works for us since we use it as a DD, we have 2 young kids, we go places and it's simply an amazing car. It has super car performance and incredible usability, plus it's phenomenal in all conditions other than snow (even then, it's fun). It's also been incredibly reliable. If we could have ONE Ferrari, it would be the F12. Best balance of usability and performance. It's a monster. Seriously. FWIW, I used to say that about the FF, and it's still a close call; having said that, we had an F12 (past tense), but still have an FF....one reality is that we're a family, and like to use the car. Can't fit 4 of us in a 458 or F12, nor are either car "better than most" in conditions other than dry. The 458 was great, the Speciale is really incredibly fun - but has limited utility (see comment above - a 600 mile road trip on a long weekend in heavy rain....it ran like a Swiss clock, but not ideal). FF+458 great combo. FF+F12 - a bit like having 2 cars that are almost too tightly related (and they are very different). I'd go 458 since the driving dynamic of that platform is so sharp, it's a superb complement to the FF.
1. AMG S63 4Matic or Alpina B7 LWB xDrive 2. F12 or 599 3. 458 Italia... Not really looking for a track car...
A. Had 458 so I know what it is like already and service shop is too far away. Porsche is right next door. B. Parts are way too expensive in ferrari. I am terrified to know how much ferrari brake will be. C. Honestly money issues. Lol. Spent too much on other things was short. Also I will track heavily for a season or two then might sell it fast Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I have both the FF and the Speciale, the FF is beyond words on how amazing it is, whole family sports car. Traction for all weather and bottomless power, plus cargo room, nothing compares. The novelty of the 'rawness' of the Speciale wears off quickly, I got mine in June and I think I am already tired and bored with it, thinking about swapping it for a F12. Ferrari V12 is just unmatched, after driving the FF I am hooked on that big beast.
The V8s are great but the V12s are otherworldly. With TTs coming in for the V8s, I don't think there will be any real choice in the future.
