I have a custom Magnaflow exhaust which is smaller and more compact than the OEM cork. So do I need to retain that large and ugly heat shield? It appears that 1/2 would be more than adequate. What did Ernie do ? Andy

I have a Nouvalari muffler. I replaced the big, dual muffler monster that early 348s came with. There is several inches of clearance in most directions. I just left the heat shield off. It's never been a problem. I have a 91 TS here now with straight pipes. The heat shield is there, I don't think it is necessary.

I removed mine 8 years ago when I fit my new exhaust.

Have never had an issue either and will never put it on again.

Thanks that would be great. I've seen several set ups so I've got a pretty good idea for my plan, but never hurts to get a few more inputs.

Do you recall the Magnaflow muffler number? The one I'm plaaning for the project is #11385

    Thanks

I use the heat shield when I have the muffler on. The reason I do is because the cover for my old rear tail lights got warped and melted, as did the lights. I don't want the same to happen to the new covers.
