Interesting article from L.A. Times. They didn't add the commission to the 206. Monterey Car Week auction sales climb 28% to a record $400 million - LA Times 1967 Toyota 2000 GT for 1.1 mil. Not a Ferrari but fascinating!
I would think you should be able to come up with a pretty good idea yourself from reading the posts in this thread, and other related threads and the comments running through this and the other threads about condition. My rough range would be $325,000 to $425,000, depending upon what is considered "top driver" condition, color desirability, condition of the mechanicals, what else is on the market at the time, and whether or not the economy has tanked as a result of an exogenous event like an all out war in Ukraine, Iraq, Gaza, or wherever.
Remember, those are ASKING PRICES; see how long the ads remain in FML. Just a pure guess, but I'd bet that 3-4 months from now, if they're not all sold, the asking prices will decline.
What does it mean to have "documented by Massini"? It sounds like it's better than Ferrari Classiche. Actually from some recent posts, Ferrari Classiche may mean very little.
It means they paid the fee for Massini to assist with records. Generally, Massini is unbelievable with his knowledge base and documentation. When It comes to Dino's, it hasn't been his focus, but he does have documentation. I believe Matthias has more information than anyone in pure documentation. Ferrari Classiche is for people that don't have much of a desire to research. Some of the cars that have received the certificate really make it easy to be a critic, just search the vintage section.
Thanks Shawn. Does that mean that if you have your own records you don't need Massini. And the more records you have, the more valuable the car may be to some people?
On the V-12 cars, Massini info is something that is always appreciated in verifying numbers and such. Also, he has a pretty good knack of having a good chain of ownership, mileage, etc. it is truly remarkable how thorough he is. I used him for my Ellena, and the thing I appreciated the most was that he was upfront and honest that he had very little on my car beforehand. A Dino is a bit different. I don't think Marcel tracks them the same way and keeps detailed records. He definitely does have information on specific cars and I find it valuable. Denny Schue did track Dino's for years. In talking with Denny, when he was in bad health, he was looking for someone to carry the torch. I spoke to him at length about doing it, in the end Matthias Urban ( another Ferrari chassis tracker) was willing to computerize the whole records file (it had been computerized but in a very basic format) and revamp a website into what is now the current Dino Register. Urban is still the care taker of the register. Matthias Bartz, a German Dino enthusiast, was able to uncover a tremendous data base when searching for information on his cars. He was persistent in asking all the right questions and developing relationships that opened doors to even more information. His knowledge base is very remarkable. He published the Dino Compendium a couple of years back and it is the most thorough Dino book I have ever seen. If you don't have it, you should get it. Over all, I think the more information you have on your specific car, the better and there are lots of places to look. When you have done all of the leg work and have lots of back up information, I think a good number of buyers place a premium on that. However, I have also see buyers that just don't care and want to drive the car sitting in front of them.
Shawn, Thank you again so much. Actually, it sounds like you are an incredible wealth of info, up there with Massini, Schue (rest in peace), Urban and Bartz. I have two copies of the Compendium. One for the bookshelf collection, and one to actually use.
That sounds a little low even for a GT Doesn't this car sound like what he is asking? 1974 FERRARI DINO 246 GTS Estimate: $425,000 - $500,000 Chassis: 07976 Blue Just Three Owners from New Long-Term Single Family Ownership Highly Original and Unrestored Example Offered with Books and Tools 1974 Ferrari Dino 246 GTS | Gooding & Company SOLD: $440,000
I was trying to be a smart donkey.... It wasn't long ago, on F-Chat, we kept talking about whether a Dino was $100k or $150k or $175k or.....
