Air Commodore Deere is a legend and, of course, spot on.

I saw that doco on the Horton 229. Very cool.
If Hitler wasn't such a complete nutjob and German industry was left to work alone without his interference things could have turned out very differently indeed.

I had a look at that training establishment in the UK.

AU$100k for a Spitfire type rating, and that doesn't include the several steps you must complete before you can do that!

    Yikes!

Still arguably better than the zero-cost option that has a final test involving a bunch of Germans in Bf 109s trying to kill you ;)

Especially considering their training was probably less intensive

Plus a couple of million for a Spit! I don't know what I would do if I had the money, if I would choose a collectable car eg 250SWB, Lusso, etc or go and buy/fly a Spitfire, and "dance amongst the clouds" as Alan would say. Who said money can't buy happiness.
All have v12's but the Spit is the only one with 27 litres of it!! As a wife of a business friend of mine in the states once said "The people who say money can't buy happiness just don't know where to shop".
I have complete files on the full construction drawings of a Spitfire. We have just finished cutting out a full set of fuselage frames (frame 5 though to frame 19) for a customer, sorry client if you have status.
One of very few aeroplanes whose airframe could withstand 10g!
In a high speed dive the Me109 tail units have been known to become unglued, and the P47 suffered badly from wing compression, taking the 7 ton Jug and their pilots to a very deep grave.

Gleggy, not wishing to be a SA, you are talking about compressibility - and critical Mach number. This is something that all aircraft have to deal with. WW2 fighters were the first to have problems with it and it could have a significant effect on their usefulness. The spitfire, having a fairly thin wing, had a (for the context)a high critical Mach number - the P47, P38 and Typhoon had relatively low CMN. The Me 109 had a reasonably high onset of compressibility - The Germans had a pretty good handle on this as they had been researching it for years, so I would imagine the FW190/Ta152 was similarly pretty good.

I couldn't afford an endorsement on a Spitfire, either!

Can't buy your health... Ask Steve Jobs; or my boss - Chinese press a couple of weeks ago estimated her wealth at HK$200m and it's not helping...

No it cannot. It can only buy the best Health care.
But these are things you have no choice in.
You cannot choose your birth or your parents or how your brought up.
You cannot choose your death or the time and circumstance in which it will happen (natural causes of course).
But you can choose how you live. Hence money, will give a bigger range of choices.
No money, no way to afford that house, that car, that holiday, that date when I retire.
Lots of money, you can support a charity as a volunteer with your time or put a new wing on a hospital or Uni, ETC with your money.
    Money+ time= Lifestyle.

    Simple

    Amen.

And yes I am sure I forgot a few (including sex trafficating, including being sewn up so next time it hurts and the man thinks they were the first). It is just unbelievable how unlucky it is to be born a female. Even without "stupid men" you are disadvantaged thanks to biology and have to suffer periods, proof of virginity, ending up stuck with the baby, and then once that is finally over you have menopause just to make sure you weren't happy for a few minutes.

It really is time for WW3, not against religion or for oil or financial control but for once and for all to very clearly say to all men on this planet that ALL women have rights and should be treated at least as well as men. It is fathers that are to blame for any man that miss treats a woman.

Do we have the right to tell others how they should live?, no; but we have the right to say NO to violence against anybody. Come on UN, stop talking and stealing money and do something!

Whilst I feel terribly sorry for women, let's face it, they're not the equal of men. We have superior intellect and physical strength. I don't see any reason why they should be treated equally. Of course, that doesn't mean they should be treated badly.

I'm actually saying because of their biological weaknesses they should be treated better by men than other men.

We don't have to suffer periods, being left with the baby and menopause, and other men (including family members) raping us continually. The statistics on rape of women is unbelievable and completely unacceptable.
    Pete
ps: Superior intellect is BS ... if men on average had a superior intellect they would not restrict and beat down women. Heck some are so frightened of women they won't educate them. But that is all I'm going to say on your narrow minded viewpoint ... their intellect is based on the view of the world they have. No wonder they care so much more for other people when they suffer so much themselves.

All people should be treated the way you'd want to be treated yourself. Men or women. No one deserves to be bullied or worse.

But they're still not our equal. Neither is a dog, but I still wouldn't mistreat one.

I'm not going to get into this debate.

I'll end with saying that I consider my wife, Kath, to be my equal.

    hey...how funny.

You have to get personal because you know what I say is true. As I keep saying, you have single handedly taken women's lib/equality back 100 years.

You're actually part of the proof that it's true!

    Want an arm wrestle?
