The effortless manner in which the obvious speed and savage acceleration are handled is beautiful to watch.. I am guessing this is a very good representation of what the Ferrari engineers were going for.
That's enough of the BS, that 918 will run out of power easily in HL mode. look at the gauge-he started with around 60% and finished a record lap with around 40%... On a more than 2min. track...
I'm sure you know it's not only a game. It is a car racing simulation with licensed content and laser scanned tracks like Monza,Spa, NurbGP, Imola. Assetto Corsa by Italian developers famous for netKar Pro, Ferrari Virtual Academy and making software for Ferrari's simulator. McLaren's P1 will make an appearance too in Assetto Corsa. No Porsche licence though. Porsche are bound with bigger market developers exclusively.
Yes I knew that, apart from this record you can include a figure eight record at motortrend test, Caranddriver's 0-60Mph record of 2.2 up to 0-180Mph record of 17.5 etc... Nurburgring Record holder , Hockenheimring Record Holder, Sportauto 0-200-0 record holder etc.. But BUT instead people at Mclaren and their fans are happy about an all in all British drag race in straight line for speeds of up to 200Mph?! Where is their claims about fastest hyper car in all type of roads and tracks, Congrats to Porsche (They give their product to all types of Magazines including British ones, and 918 results as a record breakers is an outstanding performance!!) Shame to McLaren for all that bold claims and lies(For example that Video in the Ring) and specially about their frequent refusing to giving their product (that famous prototypes?!) to legit Magazines.
Of course the opinions are vary from person to person, my above post is just my opinion, and I am %100 sure about it (Very fair opinion)
Maybe he should replace Kimi as a Ferrari's driver. Kimi couldn't drift LaF at Fiorano. (People started then to be scared of LaFerrari )
Ok, the full 918 Autocar test is out on the stand. Here is a quick summary: Track Performance 1.1s faster than the P1 on the dry track 0.7s slower than the P1 on the wet track Acceleration 918 18.2s (0-180mph), 1.9s (30-70mph), 3.0s (30-70mph in 4th gear) P1 18.0s (0-180mph), 2.0s (30-70mph), 4.0s (30-70mph in 4th gear) 918 10.2s @ 144.9 mph (1/4 mile) P1 10.2s @ 147.5 (1/4 mile) 918 18.2s @ 180.4 mph (standing km) P1 18.2s @ 178.5 mph (standing km) Braking (70mph to 0mph) 918 37.8m P1 40.9m Note: no test team from Porsche, just one technician checking the tires and all of the tests were performed under the same set of tires. A few things surprised me on the Autocar review. First, given the 918's 4WD system, it was slower than the P1 on the wet track. Second, there was only 0.2s of a difference between the 918 and the P1 from 0-180mph. From these numbers, I guess the P1 is much faster than the 918 from 186mph to 200mph?
Poor performance by auto car so far! there is a lot of things very questionable to me, First they made that poor video with unrealistic numbers and the 918 without Hot Lap(at the video) now they are back with completely different numbers, again some numbers is questionable, for example: 918 18.2s @ 180.4 mph (standing km) P1 18.2s @ 178.5 mph (standing km) Then: 918 18.2s (0-180mph) P1 18.0s (0-180mph) By The Way 918 is faster on both wet and dry track test 918 is 1.1s faster in dry but 0.7 slower in wet?? very questionable to me, And I have a question from auto car, Why auto car made that poor video but not a video from 1.1s track win of 918?(for example?
will be interesting to see the explanations for sure. wet track performance not making sense. condition of tires the reason? but what does make sense is the 4th gear roll. No surprise. 918 has massive torque and just rockets in mid and higher gears. No surprise also that 918 also outbrakes P1. Different conditions could account for the fast but not maximum acceleration numbers. 0-180mph 0.7 seconds slower than Car and Driver 17.5sec record. And 'only 10.2sec in the 1/4mile vs 9.8 from C&D. so, 918 is faster in track test from EVO, Top Gear, Autocar...and counting... but you won't officially see the lap times/video's (yet) because of some 'controlled' releases. Instead we get silly 1 mile and 2 mile drag 'race' video's. 918 is a monster in a straight line AND on the racetrack.
you can just disregard that 30 second 0-200mph time for 918. P1 should have the edge at those speeds but the 918 time...It was simply WHACK vs what it can do! Note: of full tests, from any publication, P1 yet to come near 918 0-180mph time of 17.5 sec. but of course, all of this means nothing because the only thing that matters, supposedly, is the 60-130mph times. <sarcastic>
EVO was to officially release the lap times and the video a long time ago, but we don't know the reason for them STILL withholding now: we do know they Previously had an agreement to not immediately publish when the H2H article came out. Top Gear always planned to 'drop the bomb' when the new series premiers. Yes, it is an open secret. 918 was about 1.5sec faster in EVO test, and almost 1sec faster in Top Gear test. and now it is over 1sec faster in this latest track test. Who can still deny that 918 is a stupid fast car in EVERY way? Here's what I'm very curious to see from both cars, in top gear, 7th gear, accelerate from 30mph to 186mph. In one giant lunge, no gear shift, acceleration. but wait, it doesn't matter because it is slower in 1 mile and 2 mile drag races <sarcastic>
they are the 'slowest' times recorded by any publication so far. I say 'slowest' because it is not actually slow both P1 and 918 are stupid quick.
The driver is definitely talented. That kind of control with 960 hp also tells you how well balanced the LF chassis is.
Yes, McLaren stopped them all from publishing Videos in which 918 beat P1 and instead they appreciated auto car for publishing that poor video, shame to McLaren, completely unfair behavior.
Interesting statistics in 7th gear acceleration (from Autocar): 918 P1 50-70mph 2.2s 6.0s 60-80mph 2.3s 6.2s 70-90mph 2.5s 6.5s 80-100mph 2.8s 6.9s 90-110mph 3.2s 7.5s 100-120mph 3.5s 8.5s
