    The prototype was crash tested. Anyone know if any LP400 cars were crash tested or just the vastly different LP500?

    Only the LP500, to my knowledge, which is odd, to say the least.

    Have always loved this car. My pipe dream is that some billionaire collector will commission a factory approved replica. I would if I had the money!

    Also I have always wondered if the pop up head lights actually worked on the LP500, as I have never seen a photo of them in the up position. Just an observation, but it would be interesting to know if they did, or to actually see a picture of them deployed.

    I have mentioned the above before but just reposting here in the dedicated LP500 thread in the hopes that one day somebody will come up with a photo of the prototype with its lights up. :)

    Forgive my ignorance, but what was the purpose of having the front trunk recessed below the body? Was this some sort of air intake?

    Mike I think it was a styling cue more than anything else.

    It made it on to the LP400 Prototype in lesser form as you can see below, but it didn't survive on production LP400.

    The LP400 Prototype has also had this eliminated (note the change in wiper configuration as the car developed).

    An interesting thread. I wonder if any of the models who posed with the car are still around and have memories of that photo session? Would be intresting to get their point of view on the shoot and opinion of the radical car at the time?

    The first of those photos is one of the sexiest Lambo shots on this forum. Personally I think it qualifies for the "Pretty girls with Lambos" thread too. But the blonde model, what the hell is she doing???

    Thanks Joe. Every time I see that in one of the old photos, I always think about adjusting the little rubber stops to raise that back edge up about a half an inch so it lines up with the rest of the body! LOL!

    abouth the "recessed" front trunk, I've read that it was designed to create more downforce in order tot avoid the miura-problem of a quite "light" front. as the countach did not seem to have that problem from the beginning, is was not necessary to create more downforce and the design became flat. (3th prototype, being the 2th lp400)
    PS: great thread...l'm so grateful to all of you who provide us so much information abouth the fascinating history of lamborghini.
