I have given the exhaust about 1500 km to run in and I can now officially proclaim that I am immensely disappointed with the sound of the car. From inside the cabin, it sounds almost like a vacuum cleaner sucking air during high rev. Does anyone know if Ferrari is working on a Sports exhaust for this car? Changing to after market is out of the question as it would not only void the warranty, but also void the 7 years maintenance package :( My prev E92 M3 with OE perf exhaust, which i traded for the Speciale, sounded way more exotic than this.

I don't know if Ferrari has a sport exhaust for the 458S. I loved the sound of my 458, but with Ferrari sport exhaust sounds more aggressive. Check with your dealer on a sport exhaust for your 458S.

Just imagine if turbochargers are being introduced in the 458M replacement.

Sorry, but the sports exhaust is identical except for the colour. This was confirmed for me at the factory.

1500 km is not enough ;) Mine started to change the exhaust note after approx. 4-5000 km and a couple of Trackdays...

There is a lot of confusion regarding this. At the time of purchase, for an italia, a sports exhaust option can be spec'd from the factory for about $700. That option is for different color exhaust tips only. However, there is also an option available for a true sports exhaust from Ferrari. It's about $4500. It's available for the italia..the question was is it also available for the speciale. I'm not sure it's available at the time of purchase as a spec or only as a dealer added item after delivery.

I just had it installed on my italia, and a couple of others on here have as well. It's bascially just a different set of mufflers. It took about 250 miles, but the sound is definitly noticeably different from the stock system...it's also a bit louder. I love it and glad I changed.

Speciale does not have a sports exhaust option from the factory. Only the tips in 'titanium'.

    Best, w

I did a quick search and saw that the Italia's sports exhaust seems to dial out the high pitch scream of the stock exhaust and replace it with something dull and lower in tone like the Speciale's.

Isn't the exhaust noise got something to with forever decreasing accepted noise levels at certain tracks, I know a local track to me has time restrictions and crazy low figure for exhaust db's.

Even though the track is on the btcc circuit. I know local residents are always complaining. I'm sure it was mentioned on the autocar YouTube clip.

Edit. Found video and it is mentioned at approx 4mins,

Nasty rules in SIN. Can't void a manufacturer warranty (different for an extended warranty insurance product) in the EU or US for that.

For the Italia and Spider on the main F website acessories there are 2 mufflers:
1 - a quiet one for tracks with a limit
Genuine Accessories & Spare Parts: enter the world dedicated to Ferrari car services.
    http://auto.ferrari.com/en_EN/wp-content/genuine-assets/en_EN/P000000114_en_458_Italia_Silencers_for_track_use.pdf
2 - a loud one for on road with more noise than standard
Genuine Accessories & Spare Parts: enter the world dedicated to Ferrari car services.
    http://auto.ferrari.com/en_EN/wp-content/genuine-assets/en_EN/P000000115_en_458_Italia_Type-approved_silencers.pdf

As a "manufacturer option" only titanium coloured tips are available.
As a "dealer accessory" 2 other mufflers are available as above.

They are for 458 - the public website doesn't list accessories for the speciale yet.

I spent a lot of time with a Speciale during the Montreux Grand Prix, I kept joking with the good humoured owner that it sounded like a Lexus .... unless it was at very high rpm

I thought the Speciale was more subdued than the stock 458 when I tested the car in the summer......probably so it can meet the db limits on tracks as the CS and Scuderia blow the needles off the measuring equipment.....

It is a myth that modifying the exhaust voids the warranty. Check with your dealer on approved aftermarket sources.

The 360 with stock exhaust sounds like a Hoover. The 430 was much much better. The 458 better still. But you must remember, they have regulations they must stick to for sound levels. I'm quite sure Ferrari could make her scream as she should, but those damn noise police get in the way of things.

What was your previous Ferrari? If it's a convertible : California or 458 Spider, then it's difficult to compete, because the sound is coming from the back, so when you opened the roof, you listened to the sound like a bystander, which is very very loud. In coupe, even you roll down the window, it won't be as exciting as spider.
I try this in my 458 spider, if I roll down the rear window (you don't have a rear window in coupe), the sound is much louder than if I roll down the side windows. The loudest is of course if I open the roof.
Another thing is the Manettino setting. Always drive the car in Race mode, except when snowing or raining hard.

Do u have the exhaust bypass switch installed? It helps a bunch especially in low revs and keeps the exhaust open at all times.

In the U.S. don't ever allow a dealer to tell you that a aftermarket exhaust or any after market parts will void your warranty. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act protects you against this kind of mis-leading statement. Obviously you won't have warranty for the parts you replaced, but they cannot void the entire vehicle warranty and if there is a issue and they believe its related to changes you made, they must provide proof that the aftermarket part caused the issue or failure. Links for your reference...
